Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom:
As a class we will review what the components of an opinion writing piece. We will popcorn read an
article that would have students choose whether they agree or disagree on the topic. Students will discuss
their position on the topic with a peer and why. We will go over the pros and cons as a class together.
Students will be given a graphic organizer to write down their thoughts.
Students will write a rough draft of their paper. Next, students will trade papers with a peer to get
feedback on their paper and help with any grammatical errors they may have. Students will have an
opportunity to correct their papers and form a final draft. After completing the final draft, I will grade their
papers before they publish them. Lastly, students will take rotations on the computers to type their paper and
then publish to KidPub. By publishing their work, students are taking their work to a LoTi level 5.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
Computers
Pencils
Paper
Graphic organizers
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: N/A

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project):

Students will create an opinion piece and will demonstrate their knowledge of the components of a
writing piece.

c. Higher-order thinking:

Students will use higher order thinking to form an opinion based on the knowledge they have on a
topic.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product:

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students can use talk to text technology to create their papers if necessary. Students who have trouble
gripping a pencil can utilize a pencil grip on their pencils.
Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies:
Students will use an alias name on the paper they publish to KidPub to remain confidential. Also, I would have
parents to sign waivers to give permission for their child’s work to be published.

Reflective Practice:
To further this lesson, I could have a professional come in to the classroom and the students have to try to
persuade them on the topic of interest.
