Reflection Paper

After watching the movie Coach Carter, I've learned quite a lot of things. The first
one was discipline, a team is not composed of just one person or is composed of a
number of people working together to achieve one goal and that is to win. Although
winning is not the only thing that should be the goal of the team, to be honest, for me it
doesn't matter whether you and your team lose a game or a competition as long as
each and everyone of you have it all that already enough winning or ending at the
podium is just a bonus and also as long as you learned something from your games
that's enough.
We athletes should think of our competitors as competitors rather we should look
at them as another teacher or a goal. I for one do this kind of thing there are a lot of
people that I look up to inside the community and when I play against them I always
remind myself to play at my best because playing at your best is also showing respect
and respect is also what I saw in the movie. Specifically, respect, teamwork, humility
and change are what you get/learn while playing your sport.
The movie also pointed out things like having the sense of achievement in terms of
academics the students fails to be responsible in their academics and coach Carter
made sure that these athletes not only excel in sports but also in academics. I see
myself in these students because I made a promise to myself to properly balance
academics and playing. When I know that it's getting harder at school like doing loads of
requirements or I distance myself to focus first on my academics because my sport will
always be there they always have my back and I can always go back no matter how
long it will take. When I see that my grades are good enough I always feel a sense of
achievement because every athlete knows the struggles of balancing both.
