RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN

FAMILY WITH THE SOCIALIZING SKILL OF ADOLESCENT 16-17
YEARS OLD IN SMK WIRAKARYA 1 CIPARAY

Social development in humans was the ability to behave in accordance

with social positions. Family was the first and direct environment that affected
adolescent’s social development process. The socializing skill of adolescent was
the ability of a person to adjust to peers and people that were not the same age,
with same gender or different gender, according to norms and values prevailing in
the adolescent environment and requires physical and psychological maturity. The
socializing skill of adolescent was depended on four factors, such as learning
opportunities, motivation, learning methods, and effective communication. The
purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of effective
communication in the family with the socializing skill of adolescent aged 16-17
years old.
Type of this research was quantitative with a correlational descriptive
method with cross sectional approach. The population of this study was students
aged 16-17 years in SMK Wirakarya 1 Ciparay with the number of samples as
much as 90 respondents by using purposive sampling technique. The data
collection tool used was an effective communication and socializing skill
questionnaires. A validity test of effective communication questionnaire that valid
was between 0.363 to 0.714 with the reliability of 0.837 while the socializing skill
questionnaire was between 0.371 to 0.635 with the reliability of 0.859. The data
analysis used waschi-square.
The results showed almost all (82.2%)effective communication in the
adolescent family was in good category and mostly (73,3%) the ability to
socialize of adolescents aged 16-17 years was in a good category. Conclusion,
there was a relationship between effective communication in the family with the
ability to socialize in adolescents aged 16-17 years in SMK Wirakarya 1 Ciparay
with p-value = 0,020 (α = 0,05). Suggestion, it is suggested that the community
increase knowledge about effective communication in the family and the ability to
socialize in adolescents with a complete information through health personnel.
