PROCEDURE

1) PATTERN MAKING
In casting a pattern is a replica of the object to be cast.
The important thing that must be noted before making a pattern are the allowances
The types of allowances are:
1)Contraction allowance.
2)Draft allowance.
3)Machining allowance
4)Shaking allowance.
These are some for the allowances:
Here the metal involved is Aluminium.

1)Place the pattern in the pattern box i.e the cope and the drag.

2) Fill both the compartments with sand .

3)Ram the sand properly.

4) Remove the excess material by the finer tool and smoothen it.

5) Now take another compartment to make the gating system and follow the same procedure as above.

6) Using vent tool make holes through the two compartments for gases to escape during solidification.

7) Separate the 2 compartments and slowly remove the pattern.

8) Make the gating system with the help of the tools.

9)Pouring the molten metal in the mould cavity and allow it to cool.

10) Take out the required casting part from the split pattern.
TABULAR COLUMN AND GRAPH (if available)
The required pattern for the casting is obtained.

RESULT
The following pattern is called split pattern.
The lower portion is called drag and the upper portion is called cope
INFERENCES The two parts are attached to support by dowel pins.
