1. INTRODUCTION
Idolizing and being a part of a fandom is a way of living. Other than eating,
working, reading books and playing, idolizing and having a fandom is a routine activity
for a fan. Fans play a very important role in the world of showbiz. Psychologists call the
process by which a person loses his or her self-awareness in groups as deindividuation. It
is seen in sports gatherings, for example, when people yell and scream for their team or
are rude to the other team's fans – actions that they wouldn't dare do if they were on their
own. The results of this review will contribute to our understanding of celebrity
influences and how to design positive evidence-based celebrity health promotion
activities. According to Sandvoss (2005) ‘In being a fan, you are Emotionally and
Mentally involved consumption of given popular or narrative text’. There are emotions
invested in the side of a fan such as idolization, affection, romantic excitement, and other
extraordinary feelings of happiness. A simple affection of a fan to the things s/he likes
may result a good or a bad results to her/his studies. This active consumption is the main
subject of the research. More than just being a casual fan, celebrity worship describes
people's indefatigable obsession with their idols. People are hungry for every things about
the celebrities they adore, eager to know what they're saying, wearing and even whom
they are going with. Adolescent psychiatrist Dr Alan Ravitz (2015) from the Child Mind
Institute in New York has pointed out that such kind of behavior can be considered as a
natural spring forward in psychological and emotional independence.
Now, in an age where the researchers have more contact with celebrities than they
have ever had they are faced with a question: What are the effects of idolizing artist in
our youth? Celebrities influence fans to be destructively thin, put harmful in their bodies,
and adults are concerned to their children about the content that these celebrities are
putting on television, movies, magazines and all over the internet.

11. Conclusion
a. The Junior High School students of St. Paul College San Rafael teenage fans are
very active in supporting local and international artists. Most of the students are
motivated to study while supporting their idols. Some of the students are
distracted and totally wasting time in joining fandoms.
Idolizing artists affects the studies of the students in a good way as it is their
motivation to study well. Idolizing artists affects the studies of the students in a
good way as it is their motivation to study well.
b. Students are obsessed in admiring their own idols. It may lead them in destroying
their studies and forget their responsibilities as a student. 81.67% of the students
responded that admiring an idol doesn’t affect their studies at all.
c. Admiring celebrities can help the students to improve their self-esteem. The
current research demonstrates that parasocial relationships can have self-
enhancing benefits for low self-esteem people that they do not receive in real
relationships. People with low self-esteem saw their favorite celebrities as very
similar to their ideal selves. Students spend unnecessary amounts of time &

energy in the imaginations that are unrealistic, which are unproductive for
personal growth but still give temporary happiness.
12. Recommendations
On the basis of the findings of this study the following recommendations are
hereby offered:
The researcher recommends future researchers to tackle the behavioral effects of foreign
media content, such as Kpop, on the teenager Filipino fans. Most of the Filipino fans
supports international artists, much better if the future researchers will study the different
fandoms outside their own country. A gender study is also recommended, as this study
revealed that female fans outnumbered male fans. The difference between the fanship of
males and females may also be researched. Also, study the age of the respondents as most
of the teenagers are part of a fandom.
