Dear Conley Fourth Grade Parents,

My name is Shanda Abdul-Hadi and I am extremely excited to be your child’s teacher this
year. I have been working in elementary education since I cofounded a small private Islamic school in
Quincy, MA in 1999. I have taught almost every subject in many different grades including a
combined 4th and 5th grade for 3 years and first grade for four years. I finished my BA with a
concentration in Elementary Education from Cambridge College and completed my master’s
through Boston Teachers Residency last spring. Last school year I was a resident teacher at
Dudley Neighborhood Charter School in a third grade classroom. This is my first year teaching in
Boston Public Schools and I am looking forward to this opportunity to design a valuable,
unforgettable learning experience for this Conley bubble classroom.

We have so much in store for your child over the next three years so each year they will have a
completely new and exciting year filled with all new projects, trips, and weekly and monthly special
activities to expand their minds and help them see the world, their place in it and contribution to it in a
new way. Project based and cooperative learning are my favorite models of teaching that I use to
engage and motivate students to want to investigate their world.

Parents should sign home connections, and beginning of the term goals so that we can work
together to keep your child active in their learning. I want to partner with you to ensure that each
child in my class has home access to a computer and internet to enrich their learning as well as a library
card so they can excel in my class and throughout their academic careers. They will be building a
digital portfolio that I would like everyone to have access to see their learning in real time.

As partners in your child’s education please communicate any and all concerns to me as soon
as they come up. I respond to emails, text messages, or the comment section on the first page of the
website. If urgent you can also call me between 4-7pm on weekdays. I will be learning your child’s
needs and the more insight I get from you the better. Please check out our class website to keep
updated on the learning in our classroom. I look forward to a sensational year!
