Thank you for considering my application to be a teacher for your school district. My name is
Elizabeth Himley, and I am from Brookings, SD. I am currently working towards my bachelor’s
degree in Elementary and Special Education at Dakota State University in Madison. I will
graduate with this degree in December of 2020. Also, with my bachelor’s degree, I am working
towards a minor in English Language Learners. With this, I hope to be able to help students
coming to South Dakota from another country. Since I have been at DSU, I have had the
privilege to observe in many different classrooms throughout the semesters and worked with
amazing students along the way. I am energetic and a hard-working student, but I am always
As an educator, the needs of my students come first. I want to do what is best for them and
their learning. I believe that having a growth mindset will help my students grow during their
time in my classroom. I will make my classroom a safe learning environment where my students
will feel excited to learn. To get my students excited to learn, I will create hands-on activities
that are meaningful and spark curiosity through discussions, and small, large, and whole group
instruction. Through all of this, I hope to build relationships with my students that allow us to
learn together.
I am excited to continue being a lifelong learner in this next phase of my educational career.
