1. A projectile is fired from the edge of a 150 m cliff with an initial velocity of 180m/s at an
angle of 30 degree with the horizontal. Neglecting air resistance find
a. Horizontal distance travelled
b. The maximum height above the ground reached
2. Using the equation of linear motion prove that for a projectile fired from the level ground
the maximum horizontal range is obtained when the projectile’s initial inclination angle is 45
degrees.
3. The velocity of a particle moving in a straight line is given by the expression
𝑣 = 𝑡 − 𝑡 − 2𝑡 + 2
The particle is found to be at a distance 4 m from station A after 2 s. Determine
a. The acceleration and displacement after 4 s
b. The maximum/ minimum acceleration
4. A ball is drawn vertically from a point on a tower located 25m above the ground with an
initial velocity of 18m/s. How high above the ground will the ball rise and with what velocity
will the ball eventually hit the ground?
5. A car starts moving rectilinearly, first with acceleration 5 m/s2 (the initial velocity is equal to
zero), then uniformly, and finally, decelerating at the same rate and comes to a stop. The
total time of motion equals t=25s. The average velocity during that time is equal to 72 km/h.
How long does the car move uniformly?
Take acceleration due to gravity g=9.81m/s2 where necessary
