design criteria contained in this report.

The purposed component of the project is a state-of-the-art, future-proof, and flexible

telecommunication infrastructure that will promote the civil works for telecom services with
Fiber to the Home (FTTH) architecture, Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON)
technology.

The design is mainly to provide Triple Play services (voice, data, and IPTV) through optical
fiber network. The Infrastructure network could be utilized to provide Point to Multi Point
(P2MP) technology.

The design for the infrastructure will take into consideration the fast growing demand for
telecom services in the project now and in future, the forecasted traffic bandwidth

1.3 Design Criteria
General
The infrastructure network shall be based on fiber to the home (FTTH) concept. The
network consisting of Optical Line Termination (OLT) units located at the network
operation center (NOC), all ports on the OLT card are used and 100% efficiency is
achieved. Only one single fiber core as back bone connected to the OLT with downstream
2.5 Gbps can serve up to 32 customers using passive fiber splitter, and only one fiber core
for each customer to be terminated at Optical Network Unit (ONU).

A. FTTH Core Network

The core network includes the Telephone service provider ISP equipment.

B. Network Operation Center (NOC)

The main function of the Network Operation Center is to host the OLT provide the
necessary powering. Sometimes it might even include some (or all) of the components of
the core network also include the IPTV head end equipment.

C. FTTH Feeder Network

The feeder area extends from the network operation center (NOC) to the Outdoor
Cabinets (ODC). These ODCs usually placed in the outside area, Outdoor Cabinets
(ODC) including N nos. splitter 2:32 shall be located inside handhole to serve N user,
hence fiber optic cable shall be extended from the FOC to each apartment, the cable will
terminated at fiber optic termination box (TB) installed in the apartment entrance. The
feeder cable is usually connected from a GPON port at the OLT to the Outdoor splitter.

D. FTTH Distribution Network

Distribution cable connects the ODC with the apartment buildings.

1.4 Proposed Systems

1. Triple Play System
- Voice
- Data (Internet)
- IPTV
2. Security Systems
- IP CCTV
- IP Access Control

4 of9
1. Triple Play System (Voice, Data & IPTV)
The proposed designed system shall be the fiber optic network and the civil works
(conduits/handholes) for Fiber To The Home (FTTH)- GPON network for the whole
project, providing triple play system (voice, data & IPTV) for each user.

a. Fiber to the home (FTTH)

Passive optical network (PON) based FTTH access network is a point-to-multipoint, in
which unpowered optical splitters are used to enable a single optical fiber to serve
multiple premises, Fiber to the Home networks exploit the low attenuation (0.2–0.6
dB/km) and high bandwidth (>30,000 GHz) of single mode optical fibers to provide
many times more bandwidth than currently available with existing broadband
technologies. In addition, these networks have the ability to provide all communication
services. Voice, data and video from one network platform. Several Time Division
Multiplexing TDM PON technologies are standardized for FTTH deployments. The main
disadvantage of TDM PON is that it not possible for different operators to physically
share the same fiber. A multi-fiber deployment is necessary to physically share the access
network.
GPON FTTH architecture offers converged data and voice services at up to 2.5 Gbps.
GPON enables transport of multiple services in their native format, specifically TDM and
data.
The network consisting of OLT units located at the Network Operation Center (NOC), all
ports on the OLT card are used and 100% efficiency is achieved. Single mode fiber optic
Feeder cable shall be run from the OLT to a specific number of Outdoor Cabinets (ODC)
including splice/splitter tray units, the distribution cables from the ODC shall be run to
serve all buildings. Hence the fiber optic cable shall be laid from the FO termination box
up to connect to optical network unit (ONU) inside the unit.

Multi Point (P2MP) technology. The civil works is mainly consisting of the followings:
1- Trench and duct lines shall include:
- Excavation and digging of trenches.
- Primary duct line Ø110mm PVC, including accessories (spacers, sealing plugs,
and sealing Cup).
- Secondary duct line Ø32mm PVC for villas and Ø55mm PVC for apartment,
including accessories (spacers, sealing plugs, and sealing Cup).
- All ducts are to be installed in trenches at minimum depth of 700mm (incase of
walkway), 900mm (in case of street asphalt), and a bed of concrete should be
placed where rocky soil is present. The ducts will be completely sealed. At least
250mm between streets asphalt and marker/warning tape (PVC) will be placed
parallel to the duct runs. Vertical and horizontal spacing between duct pipes
should be 30mm

2- Duct marking; All ducts will have the following markings:

• Manufacturer’s name or trade mark.
• Dimensions.
• Year of manufacture (last two digits).
• Batch production number
