span of 30 year. The project will specifically focus inputs to revive Culture, Cleaning, Greenery, Health
and Knowledge of Yamuna as per our ancient historic journey. Yamuna is life line and bearing load
of 40% population in northern part of India. Project HARI-YAMUNA is not just a movement of saving
Yamuna ji alone, it is mission to save our present for collective future. Yamuna ji signifies “Karma” in
our ancient scripture. This Project is a mission for purification of our activities.

President message with Photo

I congratulate the team for beautiful step towards cleaning, maintaining, preserving and reviving Maa
Yamuna ji’s incarnation on earth. I am happy to lead a team of young people, full of holistic vision
who choose to work specifically with Maa Yamuna ji. We must begin thinking like a river if we are to
leave a legacy of beauty and life for future generations.

Nature is the best gift to humans. Nature’s beauty is a gift that cultivates appreciation and gratitude.
In the journey of evolution human brain and mind developed the science to explore the hidden
miracles of nature, as human is inquisitive by nature. Simultaneously, human developed
confrontation with nature too. As, Science is growing; our problems are also increasing limitlessly. If
I do not take this topic too long I can say our science can shadow but cannot protect us from adverse
effects of climate. Amongst many climate crisis, Global warming, Green house effects are direct and
known challenges in front of us which are causing storms, flood, uncertain high or low temperature,
agricultural imbalances, etc.

However, the big challenge in front of human race is to keep their habitation pollution free.
Industrialization era gave employment and facilities but environment started to face hazards. The
very fundamental requirements i.e. Water, Air and Soil are degrading. Water crises are not new for
us. Around 40% population is facing drinking water scarcity. Our needs and requirements are
harming rivers which are actual source of drinking water. Our efforts to recharge ground water and
maintain natural resources to recharge rivers are not important as those are not monetary beneficial.
Natural flow of river is in dams and rivers beds have now become a medium to carry industrial and
domestic discharge. Human foot-steps are increasing carbon footprint in untouched areas.

Air is in its worst situation now, as the world most famous and expensive cities are no longer livable
cities. PPM is higher them dangerous level. It is not only because of deforestation but also releasing
the toxic gases in air.

At the same time, no fertile soil transmission through rivers and deforestation is depleting the soil
quality. Soil mix rain water is making sea water murky and due to obstruction in penetration of sun
light in sea water it is killing aquatic life of sea.

This is the vicious cycle of climate crisis, that one problem re-creates and gives birth to another
problem. When this Global warming concept came in discussion in 1824 about its existence, many
scientists had already prepared their research paper, but till 1959 nobody was taking it seriously
because of any unanimous consent among the scientists. In 1959, Scientist Charles David measured
CO2 level on earth and explained how it is increasing on earth. After that research was proved, it was
impossible for anyone to deny the adversity of global warming. Further in 1980, investigations in
Greenland and Antarctica showed that human activities leads to increment in temperature level and
is directly related to increment in CO2 level. IPCC report in 1996 stated human activities were
responsible for imbalance in climate and environment. UNFCCC in 1992, Kyoto Protocol in 1997,
Paris convention in 2015 have all made concentrated efforts to manage climatic crisis. A report
titled Beneath the Surface: The State of the World's Water 2019. As per the report, India accounted
for almost one-fourth of the total groundwater extracted globally, more than that of China and the US
combined. Moreover, India has used the largest amount of groundwater, 24 percent of the global
total. The number of rivers defined as “polluted” in India has more than doubled in the last five years,
from 121 to 275, an assessment by the central pollution control board (CPCB). A primary cause is the
quantity of sewage generated by cities and towns along polluted stretches the CPCB’s report found.
“In view of population increase, demand for freshwater for all uses will be unmanageable,” it said.

Nature has its own functioning to balance CO2 levels in the environment, which is disturbed due to
human interventions. Though, to increase the green cover area, we have started to plant non-useful
genetic modified plants, which are not at all suitable for the local ecology. Such alien plants are
parasites, which will create obstacle to sustain local ecology. Increment in temperature is taking tree
line high which is danger to glaciers and new age mountains.

Science can give us most of the things in laboratory and of course human intelligence is unstoppable
but question arises - Where is it leading us? Human race tried to find solutions for many human
generated problems but every solution is leading us to a new problem. Thousands of conferences,
hundreds organizations, think tanks has come on fundamental cause to find one solution – MANAGE
CLIMATE CRISIS.

We are unfortunate to witness the consequences of unplanned short term development goals. We
have entered in an age to find alternative sources of employment which are compatible with nature.
It is time to rethink about the Need based economy or Greed based economy? Is it required to shift
market based economy to family based economy? Not only industrialists, and Government have to
reshape their polices to develop the lives of people in more holistic way, but also individuals have to
grow in more educated and aware atmosphere. United Nations, predict that India will be the hotspot
of water crisis by 2025.

My appeal to everyone is “Do not talk only about Green-Sustainable-Economic development. Let us
all put an Emergency Break and try to start afresh, where we all humans can have an opportunity to
live with nature and provide justice for nature.”

Project HARI-YAMUNA has started efforts to bring Yamuna ji in its historical shape geographically,
culturally and naturally.

Mission-

No Future without Rivers. Revive and Rejuvenate historic nature of our River Yamuna.

Introduction of Project Hari-Yamuna

Project Hari-Yamuna is started by “Hari Yamuna Sehyog Samiti”. Social entrepreneurs and youth
volunteers have started joint efforts to keep Yamuna ecosystem pollution and garbage free. The only
solution to deal with environmental crisis is holistic awareness and service to nature. Overall, we are
working towards our better tomorrow.

Project Hari-Yamuna is undertaking to protect river Yamuna from making garbage dumping
ground, afforestation, revival of Yamuna for human immunity and health and continuous flow of
water in Yamuna to protect Yamuna ecology.
Vision

Project Hari-Yamuna visualizes a sacred and environmental centric movement of general masses
aimed at:

1. Beautification and Cleaning of Yamuna Banks in residential and industrial area.

2. Protection and Improvement of the environment, by massive afforestation alongside the
banks of River Yamuna on the available tracks.
3. Endeavour for promotion of Spiritual Tourism along the River Yamuna.
4. Establishing harmony and the collective-consciousness by environmental friendly expansion
of the identified Spiritual-Centres by community engagement along the River Yamuna.
5. Preservation of the rich heritage of our composite culture by rehabilitation of Spiritual
Centers functioning along the River Yamuna.
6. Establishing and promotion of responsibility among people for increase green area and
plantation.
7. Preservation of the rich heritage of India by beautifying the areas alongside the river banks
with Leela’s / Sculptor’s / Painting’s etc. as per the local beliefs on available natural and
artificial features.

Environment as Fundamental duties in Constitution of India-

By virtue of the constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976 Article 48-A was incorporated in Part IV
of the “Constitution of India” which enjoins the fundamental duties of every citizen “To protect and
improve the environment including forest , lakes and wild life, and to have compassion for living
creatures”. Further part iV-A Clause (f) of the said article also casts as duty upon every citizen of India
“To Value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture.” While keeping in view these
fundamental duties duties as enshrined in Article 51A(g) of the Constitution of India, HARI
YAMMUNA , a society registered under the act has focussed River Yamuna as a symbol of our living
heritage which needs to be preserved by every citizen.

Environment as Moral, Social and Personal Responsibility-

Civilization and generation future lies in comprehensive protection of environment. Every

economical development is useful when we can enjoy without hitting natural balance. Level
Imbalance due to Water, air, sound and light pollution is alarming and this situation will go worse in
absence of not fulfilling our responsibility.

Introduction of Yamuna

The very first Introduction of Yamuna is “Life line of capitol and millions of population in India”

Yamuna is Glacial river so it is ever flow water river. Yamuna river is the major tributary of the Ganges
River. The 1,376 km long Yamuna flows solely through India, crossing three states: Uttarakhand, Uttar
Pradesh and Haryana. The Yamuna also flows part of the border between the states of Himachal Pradesh
and Uttarakhand and later on its course between the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The Yamuna
rises in the high Himalaya, in the Yamunotri Glacier, at the height of 4,421 meters. It then flows onto the
North Indian Plain, describing a broad arc convex to the southwest along its course. The Yamuna joins
the Ganges in Triveni Sangam, a sacred Hindu site.
Yamuna River has many tributaries over its 1,376 km course. Near Dehradun, the capital city of
Uttarakhand, the Yamuna is joined by its biggest tributary, the Tons River. The Chambal River is
Yamuna’s biggest tributary on the right. Other important tributaries of the Yamuna include the Hindon,
Sarda and Giri river on the right and Betwa and Sindh on the left.
