1 Derive the equation of motion for free overdamped and critically damped vibration for 10 CO1,2
a spring mass damper system.
2 Derive the equation of motion using Newton’s method for a rotor connected to a shaft 10 CO1,2
having moment of inertia I and torsional stiffness kT, which is twisted by an angle ɵ.
Also, find out natural frequency.

3 An electric motor is supported by six springs of stiffness k each. The moment of inertia 10 CO1,2
of the motor is I. Determine the natural frequency of the system as shown in figure.

4 Derive the expression for the response of a rotating and reciprocating unbalance 10 CO2
system.
Write the expression for amplitude ratio, phase angle and equation of complete
solution.
5 Derive the equation of motion for coulomb damping. Explain amplitude decay in 10 CO2
coulomb damping using appropriate figure.

6 What do you understand by support motion? Derive expression for displacement 10 CO2
transmissibility (amplitude ratio) and phase angle for absolute motion and relative
motion.
7 Prove that for the damped spring mass system, the peak amplitude occurs at a 10 CO2

8 Derive equation of motion for forced vibration with harmonic force. Write the 10 CO2
expression for total response of forced vibration.

9 Draw vector representation of the forces for damped vibration. Also discuss the effect 10 CO2

10 An aircraft instrument of mass 10kg is to be isolated from the engine vibrations. The 10 CO2
engine runs at speeds ranging from 1800 rpm to 2500 rpm. Natural rubber isolators
with negligible damping are used. Determine the rubber stiffness for 90% isolation.
