According to the Department of Energy during the 80s and 90s, the Philippines suffered from
insufficient power supply and poor power transmission. Power outages were daily during that
period. That problem that began decades ago still has been the number one problem of the people
Electricity provides lighting in our households, power appliances, and most importantly in
schools. Our research mainly focuses on the effects of power outages to the 12th grade HUMSS
Electricity has been a big factor when it comes to studying, students may get their home
works done more quickly by using gadgets, mainly laptops and smart phones. Without electricity
it is quite punishing to use this kind of devices because their batteries can be easily drained just
by working a few hours. Internet café's is also one of the so called 'helpers' of students when it
comes to studying because this helps mostly all of the students that does not owe any of these
devices to make their work much more simpler. But again, if there is no electricity this internet
This is one of the most critical problems of 2nd shift students of HUMSS because 12th grade
students goes home before 7 specifically 6:45. What if it's already dark and they still have one
more subject left and then the power cuts off, they will obviously have a hard time reading the
white and the blackboard because there is minimal signs of lighting and generators in each of the
rooms are not present. This may cause them to leave school early too because this may also give
the students eye malfunctions. Also, what if they have to do something important at their houses
and suddenly the power cuts off, of course an outage causes computers to shut down
unexpectedly. Any files you were working on could be lost or become corrupted. If power
outages occur frequently which it does here at our province, can damage your hard drive and
reduce its lifespan. And what about the students who spends their time working in internet cafés.
If outages occur then once again its guaranteed that they will go home empty-handed and they
Also, ICT classes or computer training classes, are also highly affected by this power outages
because our school doesn't have generators. When there is no power, there is no Internet access
and schools that use desktop computers (as opposed to battery-powered laptops) can't even
demonstrate offline computer skills. In such cases, only students with charged smart phones can
1. What are the experiences that are encountered by the following respondents during power

3. What actions can the school management do for the students about this power outage
issue?
This main focus of this study is to let the students know what effects does this
unannounced blackouts give to them. The primary data gathering method used was
interview to some of the students of the 12th grade HUMSS students of Marcial O.
Rañola Memorial School on what effects does this outages give them that affects their
studies.
This research is designed to have a knowledge of problems of every 12th grade HUMSS
students on how they can still manage to finish every school activities overnight and how
they can still concentrate in class even if there is only minimal signs of lighting and not
only suffer from insect bites but also the students suffering from intense heat.
Significance of the Study
12th Grade HUMSS Students. The results will provide the students with some
knowledge on power interruption and how to resolve it. It will give the students an idea
that outages is not a simple problem to solve but it's an exercise for themselves on how
they can do their school activities or home works without using devices that uses internet
connection.
