E Gasket Verification

Gasket type was verified to be compatible with the flange facing. SAEP-351,
E1
Refer to Attachment 3 for gasket type selection. Para. 4.1

Gaskets are free from any damage particularly in the seating element.
SAEP-351,
E2 (NOTE: Ensure that spiral wound gaskets are stored flat especially for
Para. 4.1
large sizes, 24 inches and larger.)

The use of proprietary gaskets such as PIKOTEK or approved equal in

untreated water services, such as seawater, raw water, Wasia water,
etc., has obtained concurrance from the Operating Department. SAES-L-109,
E3
(NOTE: The PIKOTEK gaskets are with Teflon sealed, glass reinforced Para. 11.4
epoxy laminated to 316 stainless steel core. For low pressure services,
the stainless steel laminate is not required .)

PIKOTEK gaskets, or approved equal, with isolating sleeves and

washers are used for isolating dissimilar metal flanged joints (i.e.
electrical isolation), and insulating joints for cathodic protection. SAES-L-109,
E4
(NOTE: Proprietary approved equal gaskets shall be submitted to Para. 11.5
the Chairman of Piping Standards Committee in CSD for
approval.)

SAES-L-109,
E5 Not more than one gasket is used between mating surfaces of flanges.
Para. 11.1
The ring gaskets have the following identification:
a. manufacturer's name or identification trademark
b. gasket number prefixed by the letters R,RX,or BX
SAEP-351,
E6 followed by the gasket material identification.

c. The gasket is marked with an ASME B 16.20 designation.
(NOTE: Refer to Attachment 4 for Identification Markings )
(ASME B16.20, Para. 2.4)
The dimension of the ring-joint gasket indicated by letter designation (R,
RX, or BX) stamped on the ring gasket was verified to conform with the
SAEP-351,
E7 flange size and flange standard where it will be used.
Para. 4.1
(NOTE: Verification is made with the details on IFC drawing and Tables
3 to 8 of ASME B16.20). { ASME B16.20, Para. 2.5}
The identification markings on the spiral wound gaskets (flange size
(NPS), pressure class and the appropriate flange standard (ASME B16.5 SAEP-351,
