Hubungan Efikasi Diri dengan Kecemasan Pada Pasien Pre Operasi di Rumah Sakit

Tingkat III Baladhika Husada Jember

Surgery, a stressful and complex event, can cause physical abnormalities that affect patients'

psychological condition. The most common psychological problem experienced by pre-

operative patients is anxiety. The role of the nurse in the pre-operative phase is to help

managing the patients' anxiety, reviewing physical and psychological needs including the

increase of patients' self-efficacy. Individuals who have high self-efficacy will have

confidence and motivation to manage their anxiety about situations they face. This study aims

to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety in pre-operative patients at

Baladhika Husada Level III Hospital Jember. This study used an observational analytic

design with a cross sectional approach. The samples obtained were 84 people who met the

inclusion criteria by using consecutive sampling techniques. The data collection method was

the General Self Efficacy (GSE) questionnaire and the Pre-operative Anxiety and Information

Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. The data analysis was performed by using the spearman-rank

correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the median value of

self-efficacy was 33.00 with a minimum value of 26 and a maximum value of 39, while the

median value of anxiety was 14.00 with a minimum value of 9 and a maximum value of 30.

There was a significant correlation between self-efficacy and anxiety (p = 0,000 and r = -

0,373). There is a low negative correlation which means the higher self-efficacy, the lower

the anxiety in preoperative patients. Three factors of self-efficacy (magnitude, strength and

generally) are able to avoid preoperative stress, so it is important for nurses to provide

perioperative education related to the management of stress before surgery so that patients'

self-efficacy will increase.
