Ella has been steadily achieving and
making good progress in Year 10. She
has also decided to get part time work at
Burger Burger at Bayfair which she loves
and is building her savings account. She is
loving having her own room which she has
adorned with her own style and pizazz.
Seth is doing well in Year 11 and is quickly
heading towards exams and externals for
his NCEA Level 1. He loves chilling out and
playing League of Legends in his downtime
and also enjoys hanging out with some nice
friends he has gotten to know over
the years.
Karen started a new role at Grace Hospital,
a private facility here in Tauranga where
she has carried on with Healthcare and
has already been there for a month. This
opportunity arose after a friend spotted
an advertisement online for the role. She
tentatively put her application together and
then found out a few weeks later that she
had been given the job. Well done honey.
This has meant that she has more time at
home with Seth and Ella and I. Her role
requires her to support nursing and medical
staff working hands-on with patients’ care
before, during and after surgery. She is
absolutely pumped and loving the work.
Karen continues to support me and keep
the home running when I am away.
 Clutha District Council Methamphetamine Awareness
Campaign
The Clutha District Youth Council were the key
drivers of the Cluta District Amphetamine
Awareness Campaig known as M.A.C. To kick
M.A.C. off they decided to hold an awareness
march on Saturday 23rd March 2019. This march
was attended by over 140 people culminating in a

Howick Primary Principals
Association Conference
2019
I had the privilege of speaking to approximately
50-60 people at a local Howick Primary Principals
Association Conference, held at Botany ELIM
Church in June.
This is a collective of Primary Principals who meet
to encourage and inspire each other on a variety of
subject matter. I was invited to share my story and
speak into the whole area of drugs and addiction.
We had a fantastic morning and appreciate the
opportunity to come and share a little of the
mission of Amped4Life.

 Blenheim/Marlborough Trip
The Marlborough Youth Trust and the Marlborough
District Council recognised the importance and
impact of the Amped4Life programs which were
initially introduced to schools and the community
in the Marlborough region in June 2017. As a result
of the previous work we had delivered, MYT had us
return once again to deliver to schools, and also a
Community Parents Evening.
MONDAY
Marlborough Boys College
We started with an invitation to present to the Year
11 cohort at Marlborough Boys College. We had
a great start to the week here. What an amazing
bunch of students!
Marlborough Girls College
We quickly packed up our gear and headed to
Marlborough Girls College and presented to Years
11 and 12. We received huge response from all
that listened and the engagement from the
students is always so encouraging for me as
a presenter.

Eddie and Annabel Durrheim (from Durrheim

and Associates) hosted us and also paid for flights
which was greatly appreciated. Eddie runs a
successful dental practice in Blenheim and was
the consummate host. He picked me up from the
airport and opened up his home to me. His wife
Annabel, his daughter Anika, and their son Hugo
welcomed me back again. You guys are amazing. I
felt so much love and support during my stay with
you all. Big hugs and love for lifelong friends.

SUNDAY EVENING TUESDAY

ELIM Christian Centre, Blenheim
I was asked to share a message with a group at
Blenheim ELIM which is pastored by Tom Hatch. He
is a top bloke with a heart for community and
people, and had arranged a combined service
with other churches from around the district. The
response was hugely positive and people were
challenged in many areas of their life and faith.
Queen Charlotte College
On Tuesday, Jo Lane from MYT and I took a drive up
to Picton to present to a Year 11, 12 and 13
assembly at Queen Charlotte College. The students
engaged wonderfully and much positive feedback
was given at the end of our delivery.

impact on me and I want to say thanks. It played a part in a lot

Pat Buckley spoke very well to the boys in Rangiora Baptist
Youth on a combined boys’ night. He touched on subjects that
truly resonated within the hearts of the young people. He
spoke about his struggles as a young man and everything that
he has learnt through them. All the boys were really attentive
to his message and were clearly impacted by it.
He was such an inspiration for many of the RBY youth boys
and we would really love to have him back to speak to us
again next time!

something. You were that guy for me in a time of my life where I
was on the fence, I could have gone either way but you were there

I had good people in my life at that time but none like you and I don’t know where
I would be now if it wasn’t for you man. As a father myself now I am forever grateful to you for the part
you played in my developing into an adult, the things you taught me and the example you were to me,
showed me how to be the right man and father.
I’m truly blessed to have had you as my friend through that stage and I want you to know that even though
life has gone on and changed so much for both of us, I believe I am where I am now hugely because of you.

The Clutha District Youth Council are the key drivers of the
Clutha District methamphetamine awareness campaign
known as M.A.C. To kick M.A.C. off they decided to hold an
awareness march on Saturday 23rd March 2019, and a
presentation from someone who has been there and has
experienced the lowest of lows to not only survive, but
who helps others along the way. A big ask, but after some
research they found Amped4Life and the down to earth
authentic Pat Buckley.
You know there is a saying and it goes like this:
‘PEOPLE DON’T CARE HOW MUCH YOU KNOW, UNTIL THEY
KNOW YOU CARE’.

man does this because he cares.

Hey Pat,
I’m a Year 10 from Waihi College. I went to your talk today,
first off, thank you so much. It meant a lot to me and I could
relate to what you were saying very much. You’re an absolute
legend.
Your talk really inspired me to reach out for help to those
who are around me and know that I’m not alone. Your talks
in the past that I have heard have kept me from ending my
life. My scars are fading and my thoughts of self-harm are in
the past.
YR 10 STUDENT WAIHI COLLEGE
Pat’s presentation was very powerful. It has been inspiring to
see the progression and development that has occurred in his
message over the past few years. Pat’s message relates well
to students because he uses real life stories and his personal
testimony to bring a powerful message. He had our 600 Year
10 and 11, and Year 12 and 13 students rapt the entire time.
I would highly recommend him to others. I noticed from the
presentation that students wanted to stay in the auditorium -
not one student was quick to leave. I recommend him for
future presentations within Secondary Schools. A very
effective presentation including interesting visual images.

Amped4Life and Pat Buckley’s message was serious, but it
did not come across as a lecture or a sob story. On the whole
it was optimistic and upbeat, told with a good balance of
humour and gravity, and gave people like me education and
motivation.

themes of the Health Curriculum . Amped4Life is a great
