The Matica-A Elementary School implemented the three-year Project Sunrise from 2016 to 2019 to strengthen students' numeracy and reading skills through localized learning. The project involved enhancing teacher skills in using localized curriculum, empowering students in basic math and reading through remedial activities, and utilizing teaching materials made from local resources. Parents were also involved by helping prepare instructional materials and tutoring beginning readers. While time constraints and funding issues arose, over 80% of the project goals were achieved. Recommendations include intensifying the use of localized reading materials and better integrating localized curriculum themes across subject areas.
