A. DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES


The sixth-grade science course assists students in becoming life-long learners who grow in their
understanding of the world. The nature of science includes the concepts that scientific explanations are
based on logical thinking; are subject to rules of evidence; are consistent with observational, inferential,
and experimental evidence; are open to rational critique; and are subject to refinement and change with
the addition of new scientific evidence. The nature of science includes the concept that science can
provide explanations about nature, can predict potential consequences of actions, but cannot be used
to answer all questions

B. COURSE EXPECTATIONS
1. Students will be expected to be respectful of others and their belongings.
2. Students will be expected to follow directions and work without disturbing others.

C. REQUIRED SUPPLIES
1. Pencils with erasers
2. A small pencil sharpener
3. Glue sticks (2)

D. GRADING PLAN

Coursework will be weighted as follows:

Summative Assessment = 40%

Formative Assessment = 40%


notes for each submission

Practice = 20%
online software for each challenge.

NOTE:

1. Students will be required to submit a signed (by parent/student) “Student Safety Contract” prior
to participating in any hands-on lab experiences. Lack of a signed “Student Safety Contract” on
file, will prevent the student from participating in any hands-on lab experiences. A grade of zero
(0) will be issued if the signed contract is not turned in by due date.
2. If a student misses a day when classwork or a quiz was administered, it will be his/her
responsibility to obtain missed work and for student to arrange a day to make-up missed
classwork or quiz.

3. Any work turned in late will be penalized 10 pts per day. After 4 days, a zero(0) grade will be
recorded. Please inform teachers or administrators if there are any extenuating circumstances
that should be considered.

specific unit in SCIENCE class. These videos are intended to be informative and enjoyable.
However, some videos may be rated PG-13. Please initial YES if you authorize your
son/daughter to watch a PG-13 video. If you do not authorize your child to watch these videos,
an alternate assignment will be provided for the entire class.
