COURSE DESCRIPTION

FIRST YEAR FIRST SEMESTER


Eng 13a Communication Arts and Skills 1
A course intended to develop the students’ communication skills focusing on
grammar. The grammar topics or the form class words and function words
included in this course are necessary to develop students’ Cognitive Academic
Language Proficiency (CALP) which is needed to any profession. The lessons and
activities are designed to enhance mastery of the English grammar without having
to sacrifice the paramount goal of communication, which is evident in the
integration of content area topics in Science, Math, Philosophy and Literature.

Fil 15 Komunikasyon sa Akademikong Filipino


Nakapaloob sa kursong ito ang mga gawaing pangwika at ang apat na makrong
Kasanayan. Inihahanda nito ang mag-aaral upang maging matatas at dalubhasa sa
wikang Filipino at malinang ang kanilang kakayahan sa pakikinig, pagsasalita,
pagbabasa at pagsulat.

Math 13 College Algebra


This course deals with real numbers, algebraic expressions, the one and two-
dimensional coordinate system, functions, equations, word problems, variations
and progression.

Hum 11 Introduction to Humanities


This course deals with the study of the principles underlying the arts, music, visual
arts and forms of literature.

Bio 12 General Biology


This course deals with the logic, nature, methods, concepts, principles of biology
with emphasis on the molecular and cellular levels of organization.

Soc Sci 11 General Psychology including Drug Addiction and Prevention STD/HIV
Diseases, Family Planning and Population Education
This course is designed to provide the students the basic principles and concepts
of General Psychology with the total understanding of human behavior. More
specifically, this course deals with the scientific basis of behavior that will reveal
the relevance of psychology to everyday life. It focuses the need of the learner to
know more what is pertinent to their lives and allow them to be able to participate
more effectively in discussion about the science of behavior and about the
fascinating topic of human behavior. It also include topics on Drug addiction and
Prevention, STD/HIV Diseases, Family Planning and Population Education.
Soc Sci 13 Philippine History including Government, Society and Culture
This course deals with the panoramic descriptions of the achievements of the
Filipinos from pre-Spanish to the present times as gathered from oral and written
records/accounts, shared beliefs, and archeological and anthropological findings.
Emphasis is on a single stream of indigenous heritage that branded out into
streams of colonial and other outside influences merging in to the new surge of
nationalism. It is a survey of Philippine History, emphasizing the social, economic,
political and cultural progress of the Philippines.

PE 11 Physical Fitness
This course is designed to guide students to discover their abilities and limits in
physical activities and to strengthen skill and knowledge in self-testing activities.
The course also relates concepts of movements, feelings and thinking as
individuals explore a variety of movements tasks, through these experiences, the
student will be able to go about duties in the farm with greater effectiveness and
efficiency.

NSTP 11 CWTS/MS/LTS
Provides military training to tertiary students, male and female in two-year and
four-year degree courses. It motivates, organizes and mobilizes them for national.

FIRST YEAR SECOND SEMESTER


Eng 13b Communication Arts and Skills 2
A course intended to enhance the students’ communication skills focusing on
grammar, speaking and reading. The grammar topics include word formation,
usage, sentence constructions and improvement. The speaking part focuses on
how the students apply concepts and structure of the language. The reading
portion caters the students’ ability to fluently comprehend text. The lessons and
activities are designed to enhance mastery of the English grammar without having
to sacrifice the paramount goal of communication which is evident in the
integration of content area topics in science, math, philosophy and literature.

Fil 16 Pagbasa at Pagsulat Tungo sa Pananaliksik


Nakapaloob sa kursongf ito ang pangangailangan upang laong makamit at
mapaunlad ang kahalagahan ng konsepto ng pagsulat at masining na pagbasa ng
mga genre at higit sa lahat sa pananaliksik sa edukasyon at iba ang larangan na
siyang lulutas sa kahirapang pandaigdigan.

Math 15 Plane Trigonometry


This course covers the topics on trigonometric functions; solutions of right
triangles; logarithmic solution of right and oblique triangles; identities; inverse
trigonometric functions; solution of right spherical triangles and its application.

Soc Sci 12 Society, Culture and Family Planning, Population Education, Rural Society
and Institutions, Drug Addiction and Prevention and STD/HIV Diseases
This course prepares the students to be aware of the Filipino Family, to explore
society and how it operates, to eliminate them on the powerful social forces and
patterns that influence their lives and their careers and to think actively about the
social issues so that they will be in a stronger position to pursue informed choices
and actions throughout their lives.
Soc Sci 14 Political Science with Philippine Politics, Governance, History and
Constitution including Election Laws
This course is designed for students to become knowledgeable about the politics
and operation of the government. It will make them aware about their rights,
obligations to the State. It is the study of the Philippines Historical heritage, socio-
political structures and fundamental laws of the land.

Soc Sci 15 General Economics. LRT, Cooperative, Entrepreneurship and Work Ethics
including Current Issues
This course is designed to provide students the basic principles of economics with
a full understanding of economic behavior and activities of individual economic
units. More specifically, this course deals with different economic processes which
consumers have experienced in their everyday lives.

Comp Sci 11 Fundamentals of Electronics Data Processing


Electronic data processing fundamentals, word processing, spreadsheets, and
database unformed by hands on sessions.

PE 12 Rhythmic Activities
Rhythmic Activities are those activities where the different students respond
physically, mentally, and emotionally to music and rhythm.

NSTP 12 CWTS/MS/LTS
Trains students to teach literacy and numeracy skills to school children, OSY and
other segments of society in need of the services.

SECOND YEAR FIRST SEMESTER


Eng 14 Speech and Oral Communication
This course is planned to develop in the students not only the mastery of the
communication skills but also proficiency in the transfer of ideas. It offers
approach to the fundamentals of speech and improvement basing on the
transcription of International Phonemic Alphabet. It is also designed to teachers
and students to follow the correct principles and theories in the preparation of
effective deliveries of speech. It is also intended to afford a teaching tool for the
college students of whatever concentration, or the professionals of varied
interests. It aims to develop effective voice, self-confidence, and mastery of
principles and characteristics of good speech.

Eng 50 Literary Theory and Criticism


This is a study of the different literary approaches, theories, and principles applied
in the appreciation of literature as an art.

Stat 12 Elementary Statistics


Study of Elementary statistical concepts and methods used in describing and
understanding data from research and organizing them for popular use with an
introduction of basic experimental designs.

Physics 11 General Physics


Deals with basic concepts of mechanical energy, heat and sound and their
relations and conversions.
Philo 11 Fundamentals of Logic and Critical Thinking
This course is the study of the general view of philosophy, study of conduct,
thinking, sound reasoning and rightness of action. Tackles the subjectivity and
objectivity of moral, values and judgments to achieve goodness of humanity.

Lit 11 Philippine Literature


Selected readings of poetry, short stories, essays, and drama focusing in the
context of universal, social, moral, economic, and technological charges in the
Philippines.

Comp Sci 12 Computer Education including Software Application


Principles and Software application

PE 13 Individual/Dual Sports/Games
This course deals with the fundamental techniques and tactics of sports/games. It
encompasses the history and basic skills in playing. Furthermore, it encourages
the students to engage in sports even after school.

SECOND YEAR SECOND SEMESTER


VAL ED Values Formation
This course is a moral science that deals with the distinction between good and
evil, right and wrong, moral and immoral. It also deals with ideas, things, or
experiences which guide the individual in choosing wisely his values and in acting
upon them. It further deals with the individual obligation to do what is good and
to avoid what is evil.

Chem 11 General and Inorganic Chemistry


A course covering the basic principles that include atomic structure, chemical
equations, and stoichiometry, periodic table, chemical bonding and molecular
structure, gases, liquids, solids and solutions.

Eng 16a Technical Writing and Reporting in the Discipline


This course provides an effective way of writing and reporting in a formal setting.

LM 50 Constitutional Law I
A study of the basic principles governing the structure, set-up and hierarchy of the
Philippine Government. It includes the study of the 1987 Philippine Constitution,
the different branches, departments and political units of the government, the
constitutional commissions, the qualifications, restrictions, prohibitions and
accountability of public servants and the amendatory process. It also covers the
inherent and residual powers.

LM 51 Introduction to Management
This course introduces students to the roles and functions of managers. The
content includes an introduction to organizations and the need for and nature of
management. It examines the evolution the evolution of management theory,
organizational environments, and corporate social responsibility and ethics. The
course also includes a detailed investigation of the four functions of management:
Planning and Decision Making, Organizing, Leading, Motivating and Controlling.
Soc Sci 16 Life and Works of Rizal
Study of the life, works and writings of Jose Rizal and its relevance to the
contemporary development in the Philippines.

Soc Sci 17 Philosophy of Man


This course is a philosophical study of man. The course initially starts from an
introduction to philosophy, introduction to philosophy of man and the history of
philosophy of man, then basic encounter of man with reality as background to
answer the basic and ultimate questions about man. The course also deals with
the experience of man’s unity, duality, and complexity and harmonizes with two
highest dimensions of reason and faith. The supremacy of faith enables man to
look at his total and ultimate unity in the person of Christ, the perfect man, and
the perfection of humanity. It ends with the discussion on the theistic philosophy
of man specifically the Christian Philosophy of Man. The penultimate activity is a
spiritual retreat on the self.

PE 14 Team/Sports and Games


This course is designed to guide students in tracing the origin and development of
team sports and the role they play in the development of the moral, physical,
social, emotional, and spiritual aspects. Recreational activities are also provided
for enjoyment and fun.

THIRD YEAR FIRST SEMESTER


LM 52 General Principles of Accounting
This course deals on the basic principles of accounting to legal management and
other related activities.

LM 53 Persons and Family Relations


A basic course on the law of Persons and Family Relations (Chapter 1 and Chapters
1-3, Book I of R.A 386; E.O. 209 as amended by E.O. 227, R.A 6809). This course
studies the effect and application of laws and the law on human relations and then
proceeds to examine the legal norms affecting civil personality, marriage, property
relations between husband and wife, legal separation, the different property
regimes, family, paternity and filiation, adoption, guardianship, support, parental
authority, surname, funeral, absence and emancipation of minors, including the
rules of procedure relative to the foregoing. Also included are the different
statute.

LM 54 Obligations and Contracts


An in-depth study of the nature, kinds, effects and extinguishment of obligations.
It also cover contracts in general, their requisites, forms and interpretation; the
defective contract6s, including quasi-contracts and natural obligations; and the
principle of laches and estoppel.
LM 55 Criminal Law I
A detailed examination of the characteristics of criminal law, the nature of
felonies, stages of execution, circumstances affecting criminal liability, persons
criminally liable; the extent and extinction of criminal liability as well as the civil
liability of the offender, the extinction and survival of civil liability, the nature and
theories of penalties in criminal law, classes, habitual delinquency, juvenile
delinquency. The course covers Book I (Articles 1-113) of the Revised Penal Code
and other related special laws.

Eng 66 Argumentation and Debate


Principles of Argumentation is applied to public speaking discussion and debate.

LM 56 Negotiable Instruments Law


A study of the statutory provisions and jurisprudence governing negotiable
instruments under the Negotiable Instruments Law or Act No. 2031, like
Promissory Note and Bill of Exchange.

LM 55a Taxation I
A course dealing with the general principles of the state’s power of taxation,
organization, functions and powers of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and the
statutory provisions on income taxation under the NIRC and its amendments,
including pertinent revenue regulations and applicable jurisprudence.

THIRD YEAR SECOND SEMESTER


LM 56A Constitutional Law II
A comprehensive study of the 1987 Constitution focusing on the constitutional
provisions relating to the Bill of Rights, the Economic and Social Rights, Citizenship,
the right of suffrage and the jurisprudence interpreting and applying these rights.

LM 57 Local Government Code


This is a study of the general principles governing the creation, organization,
merger, dissolution, operations, powers, functions, responsibilities and liabilities
of municipal corporations; the study includes the accountability of local elective
and appointive officials, particularly the provisions of the Local Government Code
of 1991 and its amendments, as well as applicable jurisprudence.

LM 58 Criminal Law II
A comprehensive analysis and appraisal of specific felonies enumerated in Book II
of the Revised Penal Code, with amendments and related special penal laws,
including their nature, elements and corresponding penalties.

LM 59 Partnership, Agency and Credit Transactions


This study deals with the laws of Partnership as a form of business organization as
distinguished from the corporate form; this subject includes the nature and
principles of Agency under the New Civil Code and its judicial interpretation. It also
includes a study of the legal provisions in the New Civil Code and other special
laws, including decided cases, governing security transactions such as loans and
deposits, mortgages (chattel and real estate), pledge, antichresis and guaranty.
LM 60 Labor Standards
This course analyzes the legal guarantees provided by the Labor Code of the
Philippines on the minimum standards of employment, working conditions,
employment benefits and manpower development for workers and all other laws
and jurisprudence related thereto such as the Migrant Workers and Overseas
Filipino Act (R.A. 8042); Book II on Human Resources Development, and the TESDA
Law (R.A. 7796) and the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons (R.A. 7277); Book II on
Conditions and Employment, including the special laws on 13 th month pay,
paternity leave, protection and welfare of women workers, sexual harassment,
and child abuse; and Book IV on Health, Safety and Social Welfare Benefits.

LM 61 Taxation II
A study of the concepts and general principles of transfer (estate and donor’s),
specific, value added, percentage, amusement, and miscellaneous taxes provided
in the National Internal Revenue Code including the general principles on tariff
and custom duties under the Tariff and Customs Code, as amended, as well as the
system and principles on local and real property taxation embodied in the Local
Government Code. This course also includes the analysis of various tax remedies
particularly the system of assessment and collection of taxes and duties and
includes the study of the jurisdiction of the court of Tax Appeals.

LM 62 Law on Sales
An in-depth consideration of the provisions of the Civil Code on the contract of
sales, its nature and form, the obligations of the buyer and the seller, the concept
of warranties, remedies, breach of contract, and conventional and legal
redemption. The course includes the Statute of Frauds, assignment of credits and
corporeal rights, the Bulk Sales Law, the Maceda Law, and Recto Law.

FOURTH YEAR FIRST SEMESTER


LM 63 Labor Relations
A survey of the laws implementing the rights to self-organization and collective
bargaining, including laws on unfair labor practices, trade unions, grievance
machinery and voluntary arbitration, strikes, pickets and lock-outs; Book VI on
Post-Employment, covering areas such as classes of employees, termination of
employment and retirement; Book VII on penal provisions of the Labor Code and
prescription of actions and claims.

LM 64 Public International Law


An overview of the legal principles governing international politics and
international relations based, among others, on the United Nations (UN) Charter,
treaties, agreements, principles of relations among nations and the jurisdiction
and decisions of the international tribunals, such as the ICJ, the War Crimes
Tribunals, Terrorism Tribunals and special international tribunals set up to try
violations of international law and principles. It also deals with topics on the rights
of combatants and civilians in times of armed conflict.

LM 65 Corporation Code
A study of the fundamental principles on the formation, powers and dissolution
of private corporations including their rights and responsibilities under the
Constitution, the Corporation Code and the Securities Regulation Code.
LM 66 Administrative Law
The study deals with the development and application of principles and doctrines
governing administrative agencies and their rule-making, quasi-judicial and
adjudicative functions with focus on administrative remedies and judicial review
as well as the laws governing public officers including the civil service, the merit
system and the right the redress grievances. Principal statutes involved are the
1987 Administrative Code and its amendments and the Civil Service Laws, Rules
and related jurisprudence.

Research 11 Introduction to Research and Thesis Proposal


The course aims to prepare students to undertake an undergraduate research
project. They will experience the process of identifying and addressing problems
on legal issues and social concerns. The final output is a research proposal.

FOURTH YEAR SECOND SEMESTER


Practicum Observation and Participation
This course is intended to develop students’ ability to integrate theoretical
knowledge from various disciplines in the real work place, expose them the
dynamics of operation and management; sharpen perception and insights in the
application of agency’s practices and technology; acquire specific skills; and
develop professional confidence.

Research 12 Thesis Writing


The course aims to prepare students to complete an undergraduate research
project. They will experience the process of data gathering, presentation and
interpretation of such data. The students are expected to produce a sound
conclusion for the chosen topic.
