ABSTRACT

Stress is a condition in which endemic in our society, it affects all people at all

probable cost. The main objective of this study was to know the coping mechanisms of the

Grade 11 - STEM students at Honorato C. Perez, Sr., Memorial Science High School. A

total of 10 respondents were used in this study, interview questionnaires were procured.

The finding of the research showed that in the factors triggering stress was teachers giving

students too much assignments. On the other hand, in the common effects of stress, was

loss of concentration and praying for the activities in coping up with stress. Excessive

school works such as quizzes and performance tasks are one of the leading causes of stress

to students was concluded in this study with recommendation of academic teachers and

faculty staffs should take turns on who will give activities and performance tasks.

Introduction

Statement of the Problem

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Acacia catechu’s seed extract and

sap extract as an antimicrobial and coagulant agent. The study seeks to answer to the

following questions.

1. Is the seed extract and sap extract effective as an antimicrobial and coagulant

agent?

2. Is there a significant difference between the following in terms of coagulating

property:

a. Sap extract and Control A

b. Sap extract and Control B

c. Seed extract and Control A

d. Seed extract and Control B

e. Seed extract and Sap extract

3. Is there a significant difference between the following in terms of antimicrobial

property:

a. Sap extract and Control A

b. Sap extract and Control B

c. Seed extract and Control A

d. Seed extract and Control B

e. Seed extract and Sap extract

Hypothesis

1. The seed extract and sap extract effective as an antimicrobial and coagulant agent.

2. There is a significant difference between the following in terms of coagulating

property:

a. Sap extract and Control A

b. Sap extract and Control B

c. Seed extract and Control A

d. Seed extract and Control B

e. Seed extract and Sap extract

3. There is a significant difference between the following in terms of antimicrobial

property:

a. Sap extract and Control A

b. Sap extract and Control B

c. Seed extract and Control A

d. Seed extract and Control B

e. Seed extract and Sap extract

Significance of the Study

The objectives of the study are the following:

To the Researchers: The study is an opportunity to broaden their knowledge in conducting

experimental studies.

To the Community: For them to acquire alternative in anti- microbial and coagulating

agent.

To the School: The school as a Science High School has additional output and resource

for the benefit of other students.

To the Medical Personnel: The study is an alternative substance which can inhibit both

anti- microbial and coagulating properties; so that they can serve patients better and

efficiently.

To the Future Researchers: The study is a reference for those who wish to conduct similar

topics in the future.

Definition of Terms

Acacia catechu. It is a medium high tree belonging to the Fabaceae family. The

average height reach by the plant is approximately 15 meters. It is a very famous herb used

for skin problems and management of blood related disorders. It is a great blood purified

and skin rejuvenating herb.

Sap. The fluid, chiefly water with dissolved sugars and minerals salts, that

circulates in the vascular system of a plant.

Seed. A flowering plant’s unit of reproduction, capable of developing into another

such plant.
Coagulate. A cause (a fluid) to change to a solid or semi solid state.

Antimicrobial. It is an agent that kills microorganism or stops their growth.

Scope and Limitation

The study will be conducted within the S.Y. 2019- 2020. To test the possibility of

seed extract and sap extract in its coagulant and antimicrobial property.

The time allotted for the experiment in performing the tests will be 3 to 5 hours

depending on samples and procedures; wherein each sample will be giving at least 30- 60

minutes of observation time for 21 days or 3 weeks. The study will be conducting at the

CLSU College of Applied Sciences (CAS) ANNEX with controlled environment. Samples

using in the study will be including the sap extract and seed extract with two control groups.

The study aims to identify the different effects of sap extract and seed extracts in its

antimicrobial by invitro analysis and coagulating properties.
