-1A26CJ, -1A29, -1A29CJ, -1A30, -1A32, -1A33, -1A33B2, -1A35A.
B. Concurrent requirements
Not Applicable.
C. Reason
(1) Objective
To reduce significant events.
Inspection of parts.
(2) Condition
Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) stage 1 blades retainer ring has been found with distress following ETOPS test
inspection.
(3) Cause
Thermo-mechanical behavior and distress of stage 1 retainer ring induces interlock gap.
(5) Substantiation
Substantiation is by analysis.
D. Description
This Service Bulletin provides accomplishment instructions to do the borescope inspection of the LPT blades
stage 1 tip shroud interlock gap.
E. Compliance
Category 2
CFM recommends that you do this Service Bulletin as soon as possible without effect on revenue service but
before 1600 Flight Cycles (FC) and then every 1600 FC .
For engines that have accumulated more than 1600 FC at the issue date of this Service Bulletin, apply this
Service Bulletin not later than 1 month after the issue date.
Impact B
This recommendation is to address a condition that may result in an increased rate of In Flight Shut Down
(IFSD) , Take Off Aborts (TOA) , Air Turn Back (ATB) or Diversion (DIV) .
NOTE: Refer to SB: 72-0002 for additional information about category compliance and impact statement.
F. Approval
The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved by the FAA and under the authority of DOA number
EASA.21J.086.
G. Manpower
You will need approximately 2 man-hours to do this Service Bulletin.
K. Referenced documentation

5. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. Do the borescope inspection of the LPT blades stage 1 leading edge.
(1) Prepare borescope inspection as per AMM task 72-00-00-290-822-A.
(2) Inspect all LPT blades stage1 leading edges for evidence of tip shroud interlock gap which is typical of
retainer ring distress.
NOTE: Put the borescope probe in the same axis as the hard faced in order to have a good view of the
interlock.
C. Visual inspection of LPT stage 1 retainer ring. Refer to Figure 3, Figure 4, Figure 5, Figure 6 and Figure 7.
NOTE: Training video of the LPT stage 1 retainer ring inspection is available on www.mycfmportal.com.
Use widget “my download”, select “LEAP-1A”, select “Maintenance”, Document Name: “LEA-
P-1A Retainer Ring Inspection”.
(b) Look forward and find the hole in the nozzle FWD baffle allowing to see the LPT stage 1 retainer ring.
Refer to Figure 3.
NOTE: Engines with post SB72-0176 LPT stage 1 retainer ring do not have anti-rotation pin. Refer
to: Figure 5.
Anti-rotation pin bent (only for Pre SB72-0176) A 500 FC inspection interval is permitted if the
anti-rotation pin is bent less than 18% (0.08 inch (2
mm)). Refer to: Figure 4 and Figure 6.
A 50 FC inspection interval is permitted if the
anti-rotation pin is bent more than 18% (0.08 inch
(2 mm)).
Anti-rotation pin missing (only for Pre SB72-0176) Do an inspection of the LPT flowpath (LPT stage
1-stage 7 blades). Refer to: Figure 4.
If the LPT flowpath is serviceable per AMM task
72-00-00-290-822 re-inspect within 1600 FC.
LPT stage 1 blade hook missing One blade hook missing maximum permitted.
Do an inspection of the LPT flowpath (LPT stage
1-stage 7 blades).
If the LPT flowpath is serviceable per AMM task
72-00-00-290-822 re-inspect within 1600 FC.
D. If no finding on the LPT stage 1 retainer ring and no wear is detectable on hard face at the interlock gap,
re-apply the SB72-0151 within 1600 FC.
