Acknowledgement

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Lord for blessing me with the best
people in my Life as well as giving me life itself. Life is not easy especially for me as
I am juggling with academics and sports both at the same time. But it’s all worth it in
the end; I’m happy for all of my experiences. I would not be able to go through all of
it if not with my support system which consists of my family and friends. Thank you
so much for giving me inspiration in everything that I do. Thank you for motivating
me to strive hard for my dreams. Thank you for believing that I can do anything and
that I can be anything that I want to be. I would also like to thank Sir Nicolo Pili for
being such a good mentor at the gym. Thank you for all the things you taught me -
from the technical aspect of the job to all the life lessons. Thank you also to Ms.
Karen del Rosario for all the support and for giving me the opportunity to have my
internship in the Athletic Department. It was such a big help for me from the
convenience of the gym where I was assigned, to the experience I gained over the
past months. Lastly, I would like to give a big thanks to Professor Ernida Tolentino
for all the support and for always being there to answer all of my queries. It was a
pleasure to have you as my professor in this subject.

4|Page
5. Retool the syllabi of the curricular program of IE-BSED-SRM

1. Faculty assigned to handle the subject is chosen on the basic of experience,

personality and ability o network. The faculty assigned must be appointed by
the IE Dean. The faculty will be called College Sports Supervisor.

2. College Sports Supervisor, are given orientation by the IE Dean on the

expectations from both the students and faculty.

3. The College Sports Supervisor, meet the students for potential deployment to
cooperating schools and sports centers.

4. The residence of the students should be considered when assigning the

workplace. For the ease of visits by the College Supervisors, students should
not be assigned outside Metro Manila.

5. A student should not be assigned to a workplace wherein the evaluating

personnel is a relative (i.e. up to 3rd degree of consanguity) or may
significantly be influenced by a relative of the students. This rule also applies
when there is a clear conflict interest. Violation of this rule, once proven, will
nullify the grade earned by the student.

6. The students must fill up a standard letter of request for

replacement/deployment addressed to the College Sports Supervisor and
noted by the IE Dean. The letter should clearly indicate the name of the
students, his or her student number, the number of hours required and
duration of training. The letter of request must be duplicated. There must be
no change in the request for deployment.

require the students and his/her parent/guardian to excuse and sign a
Statement of Co-Responsibility (SCR). The standard format is part of the SAP
Manual. There must be two (2) copies of this document- one (1) for the
student and one (1) for the College Sports Supervisor. Without this document,
the student cannot commence his apprenticeship even if accepted by the
workplace.

8. All students enrolled in Apprenticeship must attend the SAP orientation

seminar to be held in November during the second
semester________________. Students must come on time.

each student detailing his/her contact numbers, assignment, etc. There must
be three (3) copies of this document – one for the student, one for the College
Sports Supervisor, and one for the Cooperating Sports Supervisor.

11. The College Sports Supervisors prepares his Daily Itinerary Schedule (DIS)

visited at least once by the College Sports Supervisor during the semester.
He receives a daily transportation allowance of Php. 200.00 upon the
submission of the Weekly Itinerary Schedule, and this must be submitted to
the IE Dean’s Office every Monday together with daily Time Record (available
also at the IE Dean’s Office).

12. College Sports Supervisors must also check on the process of the student the
Cooperating Sports Mentor from time during the semester by visiting the
cooperating workplace. Salient details of the conversation should be noted on
the students’ individual record and must be reflected also in the students’
evaluation. The College Sports Supervisors must make, at least two visits to
the cooperating workplace during the semester.

13. The College Sports Supervisors must also communicate regularly with the
students through text messages or email. Consultations and Announcements
maybe disseminated through email and text messages.

14. The College Sports Supervisors must also schedule meetings twice a month
during the semester to determine the student’s progress as perceived by the
students and to determine any possible concerns in the training. Likewise, the
salient details of this conversation should be noted on the student’s
evaluation.

Sports Mentor should be addressed and documented properly by the College
Sports Supervisors and submit the report to the IE Dean for immediate action.

6|Page

A GLOBAL SPORTS MENTOR, COACH/ MANAGER

The Coach
by Poet deVine

The crowd is gone, the cheers have stopped,

And the equipment is stored away.
The team is standing on the field
because the coach is leaving today.

He led them through the hardest times,

And was proud the times they won.
But now the season’s over and
his time as a coach is done.

The team will go on without him,

will perform the usual pace.
But though another coach comes in,
there’ll be a void in this place.

Today when the field is emptied

and the team has met the test,
The coach can feel certain that
he will be remembered as simply the best.

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

WEEK 1
(February 22 – 23

During my first day of internship, I was given a brief orientation mostly about my
role and responsibilities as intern in the athletics department . I was then refreshed by

Sir Nicolo about the proper ways of executing exercises. He also explained to me the

importance of proper positioning and the consequences of doing it wrong.

WEEK 2
(February 25 - March 2)

I have been waking up early so I can assist on the players who usually are in the
gym early in the morning to head start their days. I realized that it is actually a good
habit to start your day working out since it boosts your energy, therefore also boosting
your productivity throughout the day.

I have been trying my hardest to render 8 hours per day in the gym despite my
very hectic schedule of having to go to school and having two basketball practices in
two different teams. I have found a way to manage my time though. I decided to render

4 hours in the morning and another 4 in the afternoon until evening . I am very glad I got

through this week and perfected 6 days of duty.

WEEK 3
(March 4 – 9)

I have been making a lot of friends lately. Even though most of the people I
assisted in the gym were familiar to me, I realized I never had the chance to talk to them
before and really get to know them. My job got easier when I became friends with the

people I rendered my services to.

Also, it gets boring sometimes especially when nobody is around to work out and
all I have to do is wait for the time. Good thing Sir Nicolo is around. Mostly we just joke
around which eventually leads to unexpected serious life lessons which I really
appreciated and I will never forget.

WEEK 4
(March 11 – 16)

Aside from the friends that I have gained over the past few weeks, I think the
best thing that this internship has done to me is that it made me work out more
compared to when working out was a chore. When people come to the gym to do some
extra work, I assist them and I work out with them as well in order for them to not get
bored and tired easily. So I realized that this internship really is a blessing though it is

somewhat a burden to my schedule; but it made me more fit and feel healthier .

Also, I customized my own workout program with the help of Sir Nicolo . It was

my first time to make a workout program. I did not know that there are a lot of

considerations to be made when creating a program . I guess it was never simple.

WEEK 5
(March 18 – 23)

The most difficult thing in this internship is when people come to the gym as a
team because I had to assist a lot of people at the same time . I cannot imagine myself

doing that every day for years just like Sir Nicolo does. Being able to work under

pressure is really important, not only in sports but also in real life.

To be honest, this week has been very dragging for me . The job is getting
repetitive and boring; from preparing the equipment to be used for work out, to making
sure that everyone is properly executing the exercises. But I am really happy that I am

nearly approaching the end of my internship.

WEEK 6
(March 25 – 30)

It has been very difficult for me to keep up with my studies, internship, and
basketball all at once. But I am very happy that I made it this far. I am almost done with

my internship and it is a bittersweet feeling to be honest . I’m happy that I can finally
focus on other things in my life, but I am also going to miss being early in the gym,
making friends, and all the talk with Sir Nicolo.

35
WEEK 7
(April 1 – 6)

I honestly don’t know what to write here anymore. What I do in the gym in one

day is actually what I do there for the whole week, and for the next week . It’s a routine

and I got used to it pretty fast. Even the faces of the people who comes to the gym are

the same faces I see everyday. This whole experience is such an eye opener to me. I
have learned a lot about the do’s and don’ts of working out as well as in making a
program. Aside from the technical aspect, it has taught me to be patient, to multi-task,

and to work under pressure.

RECOMMENDATION

As recommendation to those who are to have their internship in the following

year or semester, make sure you choose an institution convenient for you; the location,
the daily time required of duty, etc. This is important since I am well aware that
everyone are juggling more than one thing at once and internship is just one of the
many things students are having a difficult time with . It is important to know how to
manage your time well especially when you are a graduating student and an athlete at
the same time. It is not easy, but if I can make it, I know you can, too .
