The underlying geology, tectonic activities, drainage morphometry and considerable changes in

climate during the Quaternary which alter the process once acting in the area, influences the
genesis and morphology of the landforms. The upper part, mountainous zone of the basin is
associated with high drainage density, high bi-furcation ratio and high cumulative length of first
order, second order, third order and fourth order streams. Tarai and Bhabar area in the foothills
which are formed by the influence of permeable geology have moderate to low drainage density,
low cumulative length of streams having fourth and fifth order stream. The plain zone is
associated with low drainage density and very low relief.
