METHODOLOGY: All morphometric parameters have been prepared after preparation of the base map

from topographical map published by SOI. The studied basins were demarcated through the
insertion of watershed lines. Field observation was done for ground truth verification.

OBJECTIVES: The following are the main objectives of the present work-

1. Bring out the landscape evolution of the basin.

2. Determine the stage of landscape development of the basin in the context of Davisian model of
“normal cycle of erosion”.

GEOIDENTITY: The Balasan River basin lies in the Darjeeling Himalaya, covering an area of about
367.45 sq. km extending from 88°7‘25˝ E to 88°25‘E and 26°40‘17 ˝ N to 27°0’50.82˝N. The Balasan
river takes its rise at Lepcha Jagat a few miles to the south-west of Darjeeling and it falls into Mahananda
in Siliguri.
