The name Pioneer stems from our beginnings in Brooklyn in the

early 30’s. Despite a worldwide economic crisis, Pioneer Industries
managed to expand its manufacturing output over the next two decades
and opened plants in the Bronx and Mount Vernon, New York.

Furnished in Galvanneal Steel, the UNI-FRAME system provides an

WF – UNI-SEAL® FRAMES
DWF – UNI-SEAL® DRYWALL FRAMES
The UNI-SEAL ® Series frame design incorporates the integral seal into the
Series F & DW profile. Used primarily in hotels and motels where it’s necessary
to create a barrier against air and smoke infiltration, water or sound penetration,
the Series DWF frame combines the cost saving ease of installation with the
energy saving effectiveness of UNI-SEAL.

UNI-SEAL is the most effective steel door frame with a gasket ever
developed. The integral compressible seal provides a superior barrier against
air and smoke infiltration, water penetration and sound intrusion.

UNI-SEAL reduces heat loss by as much as 84% compared to

non-weather-stripped frames. Users in warm climates benefit in the savings U.S. Patent No. 4115968
of air-conditioning dollars. UNI-SEAL is ideal for interior applications in hotels,
motels and office buildings where the efficiency of zoned heating and air
conditioning is a major concern. The UNI-SEAL frame provides a more
effective weather barrier, with considerable installation cost savings over
conventional frames with surface applied weatherstripping.

The UNI-SEAL profile is formed with an integral gasket groove designed to

hold the uniquely shaped seal in the proper seating orientation and provide
maximum door to gasket contact and the most efficient degree of
compression. The exclusive UNI-SEAL gasket is constructed of an extruded
closed cell neoprene polymer. This neoprene compound remains efficient at
extreme temperatures and is not affected by humidity or the effects of water,
oil, gasoline or common cleaning agents. UNI-SEAL gaskets are installed

DW – DRYWALL FRAMES
Series DW14, DW16 and DW18 and series DWF14, DWF16 and DWF18
drywall frames are designed to be installed after the partition is in place.
This removes the frame from the critical initial stages of construction and
allows the contractor to proceed with interior partitions and even the
finishing of walls.

Available for any interior wood or steel stud partition, the drywall frame may
also be used in certain exterior stud and existing masonry applications.
The frames can be installed by one person in about 3 minutes for the utmost
“in place” cost savings.

The Nail On Frames are designed for retrofits or new
DW COMPRESSION ANCHOR construction. The frames can be installed after the wall
is finished saving time and money. Adhesive backed
wood trims can be installed to match with any décor.
Nail on Frames are easy to install and fit in an existing
wood or steel stud opening.
Frames are available in jamb depths of up to 9-3/8”
and UL fire rating of 20 minutes with wood trims.

S – “STICKS” FOR DISTRIBUTOR FABRICATION OF SPECIAL

FRAMES, ENTRANCES AND WINDOW WALL UNITS

Pioneer’s “Stick” system makes it possible for the distributor to fabricate a

variety of special frame designs, such as entrances, storefronts, window
walls, borrowed lights, sidelight frames and transom frames. The frames are
fabricated by a local Pioneer distributor to eliminate extended delivery times
often required for factory fabrication.

The Series S Stick system provides basic frame profiles in standard

bulk lengths in 14 or 16-guage cold rolled or galvannealed steel.
These pre-engineered sticks are cut and assembled as complete units
by our distributor’s trained mechanics and are always in stock at your
local distributors.
Many of the same functions available in other Pioneer frame products are
available in the design of the “Stick” system. Exterior entrance units may
incorporate our UNI-SEAL profile to provide a weather-tight or smoke-tight
door opening. Sidelight or transom frames can be constructed with the same
installation features available in our drywall frames – allowing the frame to
be installed after the wall is in place. UNI-FRAME mullion components allow
the distributor to assemble UNI-FRAME to provide the same variety
of jamb widths available with the F16 UNI-FRAME system.

Pioneer’s 1-3/4” thick doors combine the strength and dimensional stability
of steel with a honeycomb, styrene or urethane core for superior structural and
operational qualities. Generally used as an exterior door to prevent heat loss,
the Series HP Styrene construction produces a U factor of 0.14 and a factor
of 0.09 with the Series HT urethane construction. Series EH doors are embossed
6-panel doors with honeycomb core. Series EP doors are embossed 6-panel doors
with polystyrene cores.

Series H doors are available in 1-3/8” and 1-3/4” thickness. These full flush
designs may be furnished in virtually any size, prepared for nearly any commercial
finish hardware. The exclusive lockseam edge construction of the full flush design
provides a positive joint and reveals only a hairline seam on the edge of the door
with no weld marks on the seemless door face.

The Series H & EH kraft honeycomb core forms a rigid internal element that is
highly resistant to facial impact and assures superior structural stability.
Phenolic resin impregnated honeycomb, with 1” hexagonal cells is permanently
bonded to both door faces, resulting in an exceptionally flat door with excellent
Series H Honeycomb Core moisture resistance, suitable for interior or exterior applications.

The Series HP, EP styrene core and the Series HT urethane core provide a dense
internal core that’s highly resistant to facial impact with superior dimensional
stability. Standard Series H, EH, EP, HP and HT doors are reversible to fit either

The Pioneer seamless Series CH honeycomb, Series CHP styrene or
Series CHT urethane core construction have continuously welded edge
seams which have long been the preference on quality architectural projects.
This continuous welding process provides the structural integrity of a fully
welded door with the attractive appearance of a completely seamless exterior.
This exclusive automatic process assures full weld penetration resulting
in a totally positive joint.

Lock Seamed Filled Edge

Generally for use as an exterior door to prevent heat loss, the Series CHP & HPF
styrene core produces a U-factor of *0.14 and the Series CHT & HTF urethane
construction, a factor of *0.09. Such efficiency is also of great value in
applications where the control of air-conditioned environment is critical. The
styrene and urethane cores provide an excellent level of sound retardation.

The core elements of the Series CH & HF honeycomb, Series CHP & HPF styrene and
series CHT & HTF urethane provide a high degree of support for the door skin to resist
facial impact damage and assures an exceptionally flat door.
Phenolic resin impregnated Series CH & HF honeycomb core, with 1” hexagonal cells

Long the dependable backbone of the “custom” manufacturer, the Series C, LW & LWF
door provides the strength and reliability of a steel stiffened core with the cost
effectiveness of a full flush design. C Series doors are seamless construction and
remain the industry’s premier quality Hollow Metal Door.
The internal core of the Series C, LW & LWF door are constructed of vertical steel
stiffeners running the full height of the door, spot-welded to both faces
every 4 inches and arc welded together at the top and bottom.
Series C, LW & LWF doors are furnished with seamless or lockseam vertical edges.

The 1-3/4” Series C, LW & LWF door is available in any size, with any hardware
preparation. The standard Series C, LW & LWF door is available handed or reversible
and is internally reinforced for the application of surface applied hardware.

Fully insulated with fiberglass, the Series C, LW & LWF door produces a U-factor of *0.24,
with denser insulation variations available for a U-factor as low as *0.14.

Piocane FEMA-361 Door Assemblies are the largest available size in the industry and tested
to requirements for Tornado Shelters across the country. Tested with Securitech’s Three Point
mortise surface applied multipoint locks, the door assemblies can be installed in openings of
up to 8’ x 9’ without the use of mullions. The doors and frames are sold as assemblies per
test requirements.

Pioneer PIO-SONIC Sound Insulating Doors provide the most effective

acoustical separation available for operable doorways where sound control
between connected spaces is essential such as conference rooms, executive
offices, screening rooms, psychiatric clinics, libraries, recording studios, test cell
control rooms, enclosures within factories and theatre lobbies, and prison
isolation cells.

Construction
The complete assembly for each certified Pioneer sound insulated opening
consists of the PIO-SONIC 1 3/4” door, metal frame, acoustical seals and drop
seal. Flush seamless construction provides an architecturally attractive door
to meet new construction specifications or to match existing installations.
The PIO-SONIC Door is continuously seamwelded by an exclusive automatic
heli-welding process.

Certification
The performance values of certain products are initially determined by various ASTM tests.
Reference is noted in the text and specifications concerning the particular product tested. ASTM
test criteria, concerning the performance of the door and frame products, stipulates that the
testing be performed on operable doors and frames. For instance, Pioneer performance data for
sound retardant openings was derived from tests on an “operable” PIO-SONIC unit and reflect the
effectiveness of the unit to retard sound under similar working conditions. Sound retardant data
from test preformed on a fixed, sealed-in panel can be misleading and does not reflect the actual
operational effectiveness. For purpose of determining the actual performance effectiveness fire
rated doors and frames, sound retardant units and weather-proof frames we urge the
architect/engineer to ascertain the methods by which material was tested, and verify their results.

Samples Specifications for all standard door and frame products are published in the Pioneer
Technical Manual and available to qualified parties.

Distribution and Shipping

Pioneer products are distributed through a network of distributors. The typical Pioneer distributor
maintains an inventory of standard Pioneer door and frame material and operates a modern shop
facility in your locale. Check Pioneer’s website for nearest distributor. Major construction projects,
manufactured on a job-by-job basis, may be shipped direct to jobsite All Pioneer materials,
shipped direct from the factory, are furnished F.O.B., Hackensack, N.J. All Pioneer material
is inspected prior to shipment. Liability as to damage in transit, claims against carriers for
damages will remain a function of the buyer.

Finish and Coating

The DURA-BOND prime painting process is the answer to lasting paint adhesion and resistance to
corrosion for Pioneer frame products. The DURA-BOND process consists of a multi-stage
operation, which passes the product through a 460-foot, completely automatic surface
conversion tunnel, Flo-coat painter and baking oven. The cleaning, phosphate coating and rust
inhibitive primer produces an excellent abrasion and scuff resistant finish.

The automatic door paint system features high-speed reciprocating electrostatic rotary disc
atomizers. The uniformly applied standard prime finish can be switched to a factory prefinished
color in just minutes.

Bituminous under-coating are available on all Pioneer frame products.

Packaging
All Pioneer door products are individually packaged in corrugated cardboard to insure protection
during shipping and handling. When practical, all door products are bulk palletized for shipment.
Factory prefinished doors are wrapped in polyethylene and palletized to minimize damage due to
handling until the door is delivered to the job site. Pioneer Knock down frames (or frame
materials) are bundled and strapped to create a rigid package. The bundles are palletized to
minimize damage during handling in transit. Set-up and welded frames are furnished with Die stamping on the
spreader bars installed and shipped individually. Factory prefinished frames are individually Wiedemann 2000.
