Carding calculations

• Length of sliver produced by a card = length of lap fed x draft in card

Where C = Cleaning efficiency Index, N = Nep Index, L = Length

Index, E = Evenness Index
Waste Calculations

Total waste in a card = Licker-in waste + fan waste + cylinder and doffer fly + flat waste

Standard nep count in a card = 0.2 x (neps/board x hank of card x card width in cm)

Condition of doffer comb Oscillations
• The strokes that doffer comb makes, can be calculated so that
comb box speed is just sufficient to strip the doffer.
• If Doffer speed is ‘N’ rpm and doffer diameter ‘D’ inches, then
doffer surface to be stripped per minute = ∏ DN inches
• If stroke of the comb is ‘X’ inches and only “F’ percentage of
stroke is useful, then per stroke the comb will be of X.F/100 inch.
• In addition to downward stroke, comb also moves a little
distance away from doffer at the end of the stroke so if distance
‘Y inch, then ‘Y’ inch of web will be peeled of extra.
• Therefore, total length = (X.F/100) + y
• The required strokes of comb box =
