SCORE! NCLEX® Championship Bowl
The 2007 SNAP Board of Directors thought that having a competi-
tion at the state convention each year would be a great opportunity for
nursing students to participate, while instilling a little good-hearted
competition between the various schools of nursing across the state.
The first state competition was held at the 2008 Annual Convention.
Teams from across the state will compete Wednesday for the honor
of being named champion of the 2018 SCORE! NCLEX® Challenge
Bowl! Thanks to Lehigh Valley Health Network, there will also be a
monetary award, along with the beautiful championship silver bowl,
which the winning team will keep until next year's event. Einstein Healthcare Network is also spon-
soring refreshments for the event. Teams will be selected on a "first come, first served" basis. Teams
are made up of five participants and one alternate. The preliminary rounds will run from 3:00 p.m. to
5:00 p.m. The championship rounds will begin at 7:00 p.m. For more information or to register a
team from your school, please email snap@snap-online.org. We will forward the official Champion-
ship Bowl registration form, which must be submitted by the deadline in order to have a team compete.
Last year's champion was Drexel University! Will they win again or will your chapter become the
new champion? Make sure to plan on attending and cheering on your team! It's an exciting and stimu-
lating event for everyone, not just those with their hands on the buzzers!

Thursday, November 15th

SNAP Awards Celebration Reception
New this year, SNAP will be holding an Awards Celebration Re-
ception so that you have an opportunity to take part in the celebration
of our association’s 66 successful years. Rather than having a sit-down
dinner that only a portion of our attendees can take part, this will be a
dessert reception with space for 500 people! The celebration will in-
clude special recognition of outstanding members, chapters, and advi-
sors. And don't forget to apply for the many awards and scholarships
being given to individuals and local chapters. You can find all applica-
tions on our website at www.snap-online.org, or feel free to email
snap@snap-online.org for the link to any application. This year we are very pleased to announce the
following banquet sponsors who support this special event (at the time of publication):
Kaplan Nursing and UPMC PinnacleHealth
We thank them for their generous support of SNAP! Please stop by their booths and get to know all their
organizations have to offer you!

Friday, November 16th

SNAP Alumni Networking Session
This is another new opportunity for those attending the SNAP Convention. A
group of former SNAP members are forming a new organization—the Alumni
Association of SNAP—specifically to support and mentor current SNAP mem-
bers! They are excited to give back to the organization that enhanced their ca-
reers in nursing.

They will be holding their first organizational meeting during the SNAP Con-
vention, and they have set aside time to meet and network with nursing students
attending convention. This is an opportunity to learn from them about their par-
ticular journey in nursing and help you begin your own path. This event will be
held on Friday afternoon from 1:00—3:00 p.m. Be sure to sign up to attend on the RegOnline registra-
tion form.
SNAP Welcomes Our Keynote Speaker

Elizabeth Burgess Dowdell, PhD, RN, FAAN

Nurses: Advocates in Action!
SNAP is very pleased to have Dr. Elizabeth Dowdell serve as our Key-
note Speaker for this 66th SNAP Convention! Dr. Dowdell has been a long-
time supporter of SNAP as a Professor at the Villanova University M. Louise
Fitzpatrick College of Nursing.
Dr. Dowdell has made significant and sustained contributions as a nursing
leader and advocate for vulnerable children. She has contributed more than
any other nurse scientist to the knowledge on perilous internet behaviors of
youth. Her research as explored the interrelationships among various forms
of electronic aggression, including “cyber-bullying” and “sexting”.
The use of social media across the globe is expanding exponentially as the
number of social media outlets, applications, and access continue to increase.
Along with this growth in connectivity come concerns about child Internet
victimization as well as new phenomena associated with technology. She can
address how risky online behaviors endanger vulnerable children, how tech-
nology affects a child’s and family’s everyday life and the emergence of new
technology-related behaviors like sleep texting.
Her extensive research certainly demonstrates the convention theme “Nurses:
Dr. Beth Dowdell, right, with
Advocates in Action!” Please join us in welcoming Dr. Dowdell to the
Dean M. Louise Fitzpatrick SNAP Convention this November.
during Dr. Dowdell's induction
into the American Academy of
Nursing.

SNAP CHAMPION SPONSOR:

SNAP is very pleased to announce that Geisinger is once again supporting SNAP
throughout the year by agreeing to be a CHAMPION Sponsor! We sincerely appreciate
their being a partner with us to provide our membership outstanding leadership and net-
working opportunities.
Please stop by their booth, Booth 1, which is easily found in the front of the other ex-
hibits. Geisinger is also sponsoring an afternoon refreshment break for all attendees.
The break will be in the exhibit hall close to their table on Thursday afternoon.
Be sure to thank them for their outstanding contributions to our convention & organi-
zational experiences!
