PERCEPTION OF GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL… 1
CHAPTER I
Services and facilities of any corporation specifically to schools are the ones that entice
different people to come to that certain place. These two things serve as their assets.
Services is a benefit given by someone that can be availed by those who may receive it just
like students. On the other hand, facilities are built for a specific purpose; it is also something that
makes an action, operation, or activity easier. Deprived of having good services in every school,
people may have a bad impression to it as well as if they do not have a well facilitated facilities.
This research study is conducted to know the “Perception of Grade 12 Senior High School
Students on the Services and Facilities of STI College Meycauayan” with the help of descriptive
School, just like STI College Meycauayan, is a good establishment if the employees
possess an acceptable attitude towards the people whom they are intended to give their services
and if they are being responsible and accountable in doing their job. Likewise, the school facilities
that is being used can be considered functional if it really helps anyone in doing their works.
PERCEPTION OF GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL… 2
The researchers aim to identify the perception of Senior High School students on the services
and facilities of STI College Meycauayan, particularly to the Grade 12 SHS students.
1. What is the perception of the respondents about the school’s quality of services and its
facilities?
2. How does the respondents define good quality of services and facilities?
3. What is the opinion of the respondents about the services and facilities of STI College
Meycauayan?
The researchers hypothesize that the Grade 12 Senior High School students of STI College
Meycauayan are satisfied and perceive a good quality with regards to the services that their school
is giving for them. But in the facilities, there are a lot of complaints about it.
Theoretical Framework
Lazear (2001) provides a theoretical model suggesting that class size is important in the
education production function because of its effects on classroom atmosphere and is likely to be
more effective for improving outcomes for disadvantaged students. Several theoretical
explanations for this including class size in the function come to mind: improved classroom
management, differences in teaching techniques and positive peer effects. Small classes may ease
PERCEPTION OF GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL… 3
classroom management chores. Teachers may know their students better and meet
parents/guardians more frequently. Teachers may control the classroom better and spend less time
on discipline and transitions. Students may be ‘on task’ more consistently. In addition, teachers
may be more effective in small classes. In small classes, the curriculum may take on more variety,
breadth, depth, or richness because teachers have more time to focus on planning. With smaller
classes, teachers were able to individualize instructions according to the student’s needs, using a
variety of approaches, and allowing teachers to provide students with opportunities to reveal their
abilities and understanding. Teachers can offer more frequent critique and feedback to each
student. While some studies show that activities are more varied and innovative in small classes,
many studies suggest that teachers do not change their methods according to the size of the class.
Correa (1993) posits a theoretical explanation for the importance of class size in the
education production function that focuses on the role of individual faculty-student interaction.
His model describes teachers that must weigh efforts directed to the whole class versus individual
student attention. The larger the class the greater the instructor effort devoted to class wide
activities at the expense of individual attention. In this way, individual student learning and
outcomes decline as class size increases. His model illustrates the importance of separating class

This research paper extents its study to the selected students specifically to the Grade 12
Senior High School Students in STI College Meycauayan which is located at MacArthur Highway,
at the STI College Meycauayan, covering the school year of 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, the
actions, responses, and opinions of the students were only being observed in these years regarding
the research.
School is a conducive place for the students to learn. The more comfortable the students
are, the more likely they will learn. Thus, the significance of this study is for the researchers to
evaluate and determine the perceptions of the Grade 12 SHS students in terms of having a good
quality of services and facilities in their respective school which is the STI College Meycauayan,
To the Students.
The results of the study will provide them an opportunity to evaluate the possible effects if
the school will be found as having a low – quality school services and school facilities and may be
able to cope up with those effects. Thus, if the school will be found as having a good quality of
school services and school facilities, students will feel the convenience in learning.
To the Teachers.
The results of this study will help them to become more aware of the views of the students
regarding school’s situation concerning school’s facilities and will improve their skills much more
such that they are one of those who are giving services in the school, especially to their students
They can use the results of the study as a reference to identify if the school is equipped
enough with regards to the school’s issue of having a good quality of services and facilities. They
may be able to evaluate, formulate, and apply possible actions to those existing school problems.
Definition of Terms
While reading the research paper, you will meet various terms such as the following:
• Facilities - something that is built for a specific purpose; something that eases an action,
operation, or activity
• Services - benefit given by someone that can be availed by those who may receive it

Marx, 2006. A certain aspect of school climate that impacts the job satisfaction and student
achievement is the school building itself. Usually found in urban school settings, conditions of the
facility include, peeling paints in walls, shattered windows, poor lighting and instructional space.
The important components that the teachers and students’ perceptions are about their working and
studying environment have a lot of room and physical environment of the classroom.
Galiher (2006) and Darling (2005), used GPA to measure student performance because the
main focus in the student performance for the particular semester. Some other researchers used
test results or previous year result since they are studying performance for the specific subject or
year (Hijazi and Naqvi, 2006 and Hake, 1998). Many researchers have discussed the different
factors that affect the student academic performance in their research. There are two types of

factors that affect the students’ academic performance. These are internal and external classroom
factors and these factors strongly affect the students’ performance. Internal classroom factors
include student’s competence in English, class schedules, class size, English text books, class test
results, learning facilities, homework, environment of the class, complexity of the course material,
teacher role in the class, technology used in the class and exams systems. External classroom
factors include extracurricular activities, family problems, work and financial, social and other
problems. Research studies shows that students’ performance depends on many factors such as
learning facilities, gender and age differences, etc. that can affect student performance (Hansen,
Joe B., 2000). Harb and El-Shaarawi (2006) found that the most important factor with positive

condition had an effect on student achievement and teacher’s income. Additionally, school’s poor
facilities, portable classrooms or postponed maintenance had lower the student’s achievement on
standardized tests.
Unsurprisingly, the results also suggested that the quality of teachers played a role in
student achievement. In this context, teacher quality reflected how their performance was rated by
their students, as well as teacher years of experience, academic qualifications, etc. Teacher
satisfaction, i.e. how satisfied teachers were with their jobs, was also significant in terms of student
performance. The study noted the correlation between teacher satisfaction and teacher quality.

Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Luana Zellner the purpose of this study was to explore the
possible relationship between school facility conditions and school outcomes such as student
academic achievement, attendance, discipline, completion rate and teacher turnover rate. School
facility condition for the participating schools was determined by the Total Learning Environment
campuses in Texas with enrollments between 1,000 and 2000 and economically disadvantaged
enrollments less than 40%. Each school in the study population was organized by grades nine
through twelve. Data for achievement, attendance, discipline, completion rate and teacher turnover
rate were collected through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS)
completion rate and teacher turnover rate and their relation to school facilities were investigated
using multiple regression models to compare sections and subsections of the TLEA with each of

the iv five dependent variables. Major research findings of this study included the following: first,
student achievement, attendance and completion rate measures were not found to be statistically
significant in relation to school facility conditions as measured by the TLEA at the 0.05 level;
second, discipline, or behavior, was found to be significantly related to the TLEA. This indicates
that the subsections of the TLEA could be used to predict discipline factors for schools in the study
population; third, teacher turnover rate was found to be related to the TLEA subsections of
Specialized Learning Space and Support Space, with the correlation to Support Space being
indirect. Literature from prior studies infers that relationships do exist between all five of the
study’s dependent variables. However, this study only yielded significant findings in the areas of

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
While doing the paper, the researchers were guided by the descriptive type of study under
the qualitative research approach which focuses on the idea of the target respondents and is a
and motivations of the respondents. It provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas
or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Qualitative Research is also used to uncover
trends in thought and opinions, and dive deeper into the problem.
Each respondent will be interviewed about their personal views and opinion about the
Population
Ten (10) students from their respective section in the STI College Meycauayan will be
picked randomly. These students will serve as the researchers’ respondents. The researchers will
give each of the respondents an interview guide questions that will help them to enhance their
understanding about the study which may therefore help the researchers do their work.
Sampling Method
The researchers used Random Sampling in doing their study as their sampling method.
Random sampling is a part of the sampling technique in which each sample has an equal
of the total population. In the case of the researchers’ research, they have shown the random
sampling method by randomly selecting 10 students from their respective section which will serve
Research Instrument
The researchers used a self-administered interview questionnaire for the data gathering
process to get qualitative data. The researchers prepared interview questionnaires to gain the
needed data where respondents’ answers were free responses. The primary objective of the
interview was to determine the perception of the students in STI College Meycauayan in terms of
their experiences to the school facilities and services. The interview was constructed in such a way
that the respondents could answer it easily for them to be able to gather more accurate data.

1. What is your perception about the school’s quality service and facility?
Some students are contented with the teaching in STI College Meycauayan
in the respective strands the respondents are enrolled in. However, the respondents
are experiencing issues with room ventilation about with the facility. Here are some

Nevertheless, one respondent seems to be satisfied with the good quality service
and facility in STI College Meycuayan. However, the respondent failed to give
further details. Moreover, one respondent desires to receive quality service and
“Okay lang.”
The rest of the respondents did not answer the question directly but voiced out
different opinions instead. These opinions include the success of the school in board exams,
students’ motivation in attending classes, and remarks about the administrative staff of the
school.
Researchers’ summary:
Temperature can change the student moods and can distract them from their study,
even there is a good quality of teaching, if the student is irritated the percentage of their
learnings possibly will be down. This is one of the study shown about temperature affects
students learning. Temperature has been shown to have a tremendous impact on student
performance, and it all begins with altering our mood. Temperature’s effect on mood

decreases memory and cognitive ability which is what affects learning ability. Data
collected from a study done by the University of Scranton reveals that students perform
best in controlled temperatures with test scores averaging in the 90th percentile. When
temperatures were too hot scores averaged in the low 70s, and at the mid-70s when they
2. What do you think are the components which make up quality service and facility?
Most of the respondents answered that quality service and facility of a school includes
faculty having a mastery of the subject matter and other means of conducting a lesson (as
per STI, a respondent mentioned about the use and advantage of Electronic Learning
Management System or ELMS). But then again, some expressed their desire for better and

Researcher’s summary:
Good facilities amplify the good quality teaching in STI College Meycauayan.
Based on the interviews conducted, the researchers believe that if facilities are kept in good
condition, students will be more satisfied with both services and facilities in STI.
The respondents had different definitions of good quality service and facility.
The students based their definition on their personal experiences. Here are some

istudyante parang marami syang natututunan sa school tas mataas yung grades
nyabdahil naka depende din yun dun sa sa sa mga teachers kung pano sila mag turo

ganun.”
“Pagdating sa service ano yung quality siguro masasabi mong ano yung natututo
yung mga istudyante tsaka ano tawag rito? Hindi naman sa mataas yung grades pero
madaming matututunan tas sa facilities yung maayos tsaka nasa tama yung ano.”

A good service must have these characteristics: Fast, reliable, admirable and a
teacher that has mastery of what he or she is doing. Furthermore, a good facility is
something that is comfortable and a space abundant enough for the student demand.

Researcher’s Overall Insights: Register and Cashier should be more than 1 because it is
one of the problem to the STI College Meycuayan. Relocation or improve the size of STI
Meycauayan is also needed for the establishment to comply the demand of student. Lastly,
the teaching is okay for the respondent it just that the building characteristic cannot comply
CHAPTER V
Summary of Findings
The students that have been interviewed in the first question mostly refer to the
temperature of the school. Some said that it is ‘okay’. But there is some that say, the school
temperature is hot in terms of the air-conditioned rooms having problems. It’s either there
are water droplets or just there’s this random time that even if it is not leaking, it just doesn’t
have enough coldness that is maybe due to the overcrowded room itself. Moreover, there
is a respondent that desires to have a quality service, but when the interviewer asks how
that’ll be done, the respondent didn’t point out what he wanted to say specifically.
Second question leads to the components that make up quality service and facility
that is answered, saying most of the problem is with the air condition. Teaching is great.
No argument with that. But the students in Culinary Arts are having problems with the
equipment, complaining about the times that they have to bring their own equipment for
Respondents answered the third question differently from the others. From the
satisfaction and comfortability of and for the students. To interaction of and to the staff of
The opinions of the respondents to our fourth question lies between the size,
temperature, and teaching. Respondents said that the school needs to have a bigger
establishment, add more space. The air condition needs to be repaired or to be fixed as soon
as possible because the respondents complains about the ventilation of rooms. It needs
