LIVING The prompt of the project is to design a public library for

young adults in the city of Barcelona in a corner condition

between Gracia and Eixample. The concept of “Living

BOOKSHELF
Bookshelf” is rooted in the metaphor in which the building
becomes the bookshelf. The bookshelves not only function
as book holders, but also function as the structure of the
building - the building is supported by the books. The
starting point of the project was to develop a module. The
shelving becomes part of the structure and the books its
measurement base. The bookshelves are incorporated in
tbetween 60 cm deep columns spaced in increments of 1 m,
which dictates the rhythm of the columns. This module also
organizes the space with the idea a stationary inner core
and a dynamic outer ring. The module is then divided into 4
parts: Inner core, 60 cm bookshelf, 1.5 m corridor, and 1.2 m for

stairs and reading areas. This definition of spaces provides
different conditions and experiences allowing the fulfillment
of varies preferences of the user. Moreover, the project

challenges the idea of a static library, in which the circulation
induces people to move in the library improving the brain
performance to perform the better.
