Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Physical Science

Teacher: SHEENA MAE N. DALGUNTAS Date: February 26, 2019

Grade Level: Grade 11-HUMSS Time: 10:50-11:50

I. Objectives
At the end the lesson the students should be able to;
a. Know the different kinds of chemical bonding.
b. Differentiate polar covalent bonds from nonpolar covalent bond.
c. Apply their understanding on electronegativity to determine the polarity
of molecules
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Polarity of Molecules
References: (1) Whitten, K.W., Davis, R.E., Peck, M.L., & Stanley, G.G.,
(2005). General Chemistry 7th ed. Singapore: Thomson/Brooks/Cole.
Learning Competencies: Determine if a molecule is polar or non-polar
given its structure. Relate the polarity of a molecule to its properties
Codes: (S11/12PS-IIIc-15) (S11/12PS-IIIc-16)
Materials: Book, Laptop and Projector

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Setting of Standards
d. Checking of Attendance

B. Review/Motivation
 The teacher will recall the past lesson.
 The teacher will show a scrambled letters and the students will form a
word out of it.

C. Presentation
c.1 Abstraction- Lecturette
 The teacher will introduce one by one the terms formed out of the
scrambled letters.
 The teacher will discuss the types of bonding and the electronegativity
which determines the polarity of molecules.
c.2 Activity
1. Divide the class into 5 groups.
2. Each group will follow the instruction given in the activity.
3. The teacher will give the materials or components to the students.
4. After the activity the teacher will check the output of the students.
c.3 Analysis
Make a prediction about the trend you expect to see in electronegativity:
1) As you move from left to right across a period?
2) As you move down a group?

D. Application
The teacher will ask the question to the students:
1. What are the different kinds of chemical bonding?
2. What is the difference between polar covalent bonds and nonpolar
covalent bond?
3. How do electronegativity values help us determine the polarity of a bond?

IV. Assessment
The teacher will give a short quiz.
Direction:
Get ½ sheet of paper and answer the following question: Give the
electronegativity difference and determine the bond type in the following
molecules.

1) CH4
2) HCl
3) NaF
4) MgCl2
5) SO2
6) NH3
7) H2O
8) KCl
9) CsF
10) Cl2

V. Assignment
 Have an advance reading about our next topic.
