Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is used to design web pages
using markup language. HTML is the combination of Hypertext and Markup
language. Hypertext defines the link between the web pages. Markup language
is used to define the text document within tag which defines the structure of
web pages. This language is used to annotate (make notes for the computer) text
so that a machine can understand it and manipulate text accordingly. Most of
markup (e.g. HTML) languages are human readable. Language uses tags to
define what manipulation has to be done on the text.
HTML is a markup language which is used by the browser to manipulate text,
images and other content to display it in required format. HTML was created by
Tim Berners-Lee in 1991. The first ever version of HTML was HTML 1.0 but
the first standard version was HTML 2.0 which was published in 1999.
 It is easy to learn and easy to use.
 It is platform independent.
 Images, video and audio can be added to a web page.
 Hypertext can be added to text.
 It is a markup language.
 It is a simple markup language. Its implementation is easy.
 It is used to create a website.
 Helps in developing fundamentals about web programming.
 Boost professional career.

Cascading Style Sheets which is in a better way known as CSS, is a very simple
designed process which is used for making the web pages a lot more
presentable. CSS allows you to put styles to customize your web pages. The
best part about making use of this styling feature is that the CSS is independent
of the HTML way of creating web pages. The basic difference between the
Hypertext Markup Language and the Cascading Style Sheets is that the former
is mainly known to provide the structural way of the landscape to the web page
while the former is meant to provide a powerful color coding and styling
techniques. It is used to control the layout of more than one web page all at
once. All the external stylesheets are stored in the form of CSS files.

JavaScript is the programming language of HTML and the Web.JavaScript is

easy to learn. JavaScript was once upon a time used only in client side(browser),
but node js (execution engine/run time/web server) have made possible to run
javascript on server side. JavaScript is everywhere – on
Desktop/Server/Mobile.You can create mobile web app with javascript and

html5, which has lot of advantages like save licensing cost $99 yearly to pay
Apple for making IOS apps and you don’t have to purchase MAC laptop to make
your IOS app(Apple’s app can only be made in MAC).
JavaScript has stormed the web technology and nowadays small software
ventures to fortune 500, all are using node js for web apps. Recently
wordpress.com has rewritten its dashboard in javascript, paypal also chose to
rewrite some of its components in java script. Be it google/twitter/facebook,
javascript is important for everyone. It is used in applications like single page
applications, Geolocation APIs, net advertisements etc.

1.2 Functionality

The functions of a modern travel agency have widened much after the
introduction of historical places. The most important functions of a travel agency
are described below:

 Travel Information:
A retail travel agency provides necessary travel information to the general
public. The intending tourists come to the office of the travel agent and seek
information regarding their proposed visit. The travel agent should be a very
knowledgeable man and should supply up to date and concrete information
relating to travel. He must have great communication skill and he should be
thorough in the art of catching the potential customers. The knowledge of
foreign language is a desirable qualification for those working in a travel
agency.

 Preparation of Itineraries:
A tourist journey involves preparation of different types of itineraries. There
are different means of transport with their respective advantages and
disadvantages. A travel agent advises the potential tourist to choose the most
convenient course.

 Liaison with Providers of Service:

A travel agent should maintain constant contact with the providers of various
services like the transport companies that providers of surface transport like
motor cars.

 Planning and Costing Tours:

The contracts and arrangements having been entered into, there comes the task
of planning and costing tours, both for inclusive programmers and to meet
individual requirements. This job is intensely interesting and at the same time
challenging. This job calls for a great deal of initiative and drive. The job calls
for travel to those places which are to be included in the itineraries. This is
essentially a job for a meticulously minded person and calls for considerable
training and ability. Many agencies with transportation companies take the
opportunity of arranging educational tours for such staff with which they deal.

Many agencies have people who are authorities on particular countries and, in
addition to a general program, many will issue separate programmers dealing
with territories. Separate programmers dealing with holiday offers based on
specific forms of transportation may also be prepared. Programmers also have
to be issued to cover different seasons of the year. Publicity is an important
part of the programmer. Having spent considerable time and money on
preparing all that goes into the issue of a programmer, publicity must feature
considerably in the activities of a travel agency and more so if the agency
happens to be a large one. The majority of large travel agencies have their own
publicity departments under the management of a publicity expert.

 Ticketing:
Selling tickets to tourists for different modes of transport is a very important
function of a travel agent. Ticketing is not an easy job as the range.

 Insurance:
Insurance for personal accident risks and risk for loss of baggage is an
important function of a travel agent. Today in most countries which are
generators of tourism, tour operation is the dominating feature of the holiday
market. An inclusive tour is a package of transport and accommodation and

perhaps some other services which are sold as a single holiday for a single all-
inclusive price. The popular term, ‘package holiday’ describes the nature of a
tour more accurately than the term ‘inclusive tour’.

The original demand for inclusive arrangements came from the convenience
of buying a single travel product.

1.3 Scope of the proposed project

There are many purposes that influence the running of the tourism industry. Some
show immediate effect while, there are also factors which affect in the long run.

 Environment at Destination
Tourism is in its best form when the destination boasts of conducive climate.
In contrast, any undesired changes in the environment such as high winds,
flash floods, drought, and extreme climate can affect tourism adversely.
 Economy of the Community
When a country is undergoing economic turbulence and when people are
facing unemployment issues, tourism is affected adversely. On the contrary,
when a country’s economy is doing well and people can afford to spend money
on leisure, tourism progresses.
 Historical or Cultural Importance of Destination
The place or destination of travel affects the tourism business to a great extent.
If the destination is of great historical or cultural significance then tourists will
certainly like to visit the place for seeing monuments, castles, forts, ancient
architecture, sculptures, caves, antic paintings and utensils, clothes, weapons,
ornaments, and other allied heritage.
 Research Importance of Destination
There are tourists who visit places with the objective of studies and
exploration. Need for research promotes tourism. Archeologists, Geologists,

researching Arts and Cultures seek places that have great significance in the
field of research.
 Religious Importance of Destination
The places of religious importance or worship are always flooded with
tourists. At these places, tourism is at its peak at particular time periods in a
year. The tourists often go on pilgrimage to find inner peace and invoke
blessings of the deities they worship and to cleanse their sins before death.

Fig 1.3 Block diagram of Factors Affecting Tourism

 Technology
Internet has penetrated to almost every corner of the world. Tourists are
enjoying the benefits of Internet. While planning a tour, the tourists try to get
the idea about the places they are going to visit, the quality of amenities and
services, and the attractions at the destination. After visiting a destination, the
experienced tourists share their opinions on various platforms of the Internet.
Thus, the reviews of experienced tourists shared on the internet work as
guidelines for the following tourists. Hence, just like a double-edged sword,
the Internet can boost as well as bring down the tourism business.

Tourism is an essential industry. It is where we often wind up when we are

seeking a problem in financial crisis and health related query. Tourism is one of
the most regulated businesses in the world. Tourism remains important source for
career opportunities for people. It is vital system for developing economy for the
nation.

2.3 Constraints

 Security concerns.
 Negative country image aboard.
 Underdeveloped civil, communication and tourism infrastructure.
 Financial constraints.
 Trust deficit between public and private sector tourism stake-holders.

2.4 Definition of Problems

According to the problem statement in research has its own importance which
deals with present problems and possible solutions to those. This section gives
the motivation of the researcher to conduct research. This section explains in
detail why this research is mandatory for the researcher. This section must
be treated with caution in order to give a simple and powerful solution to this
problem else it will fail to justify this research.
This makes researcher to refer to the areas of problem or to capture the problem
and solve them in a convincing manner, and it only complicates the problem,
not a solution. There are many factors that affect consumer behavior on tourism
in India. The main factor is to study the consumer behavior that
deals with potential customers, and tourism that deals with the requirements
of the consumer.

An entity relationship diagram (ERD) shows the relationships of entity sets stored
in a database. An entity in this context is an object, a component of data. An entity
set is a collection of similar entities. These entities can have attributes that define
its properties.

4.1 Entity Relationship Diagram

Fig 4.1 Entity Relationship Diagram of tourism management

As we see in the fig. 5.1 the entity relationship diagram of tourism management
there are five entities as admin, travel, employee, package and user. In this the
one admin has a control on n employees, m users and p packages. Where as one
employ works on one package and one travel at one time and that one travel takes
one user at a time but that user can select only one package at one time.
