LESSON 1
ACTIVITY
Research the role of CRS and GDS in the Tourism Industry and interpret the diagram on
the below.
In today’s era, technology is commonly and widely used by people from all over
the world and with different ages. Thus, the process and promotion of many
things especially in the tourism industry is also fast-facing that can totally help
the business and the travelers to experience immediate and interactive
transactions. The most commonly used technical technique in the tourism
industry is the computer reservation system (CRS). It’s essentially an automated
system for promoting purchases and providing timely and reliable information
about product and service supply, pricing, and bookings. Originally developed
and used by airline companies for flight ticket reservations, CRS is now used to
store and deliver information about tourism goods or products and services to
the general public, either directly or by intermediaries, allowing reservations to
be made. On the other side, one of the most important instruments for the travel
industry is the Global Distribution System (GDS). A global online system or
network that links travel service providers or retailers to travel agents in real
time by offering a centralized service that includes airline ticket bookings, car
rentals, hotel rooms, and other services. The system allows travel service
providers and travel agents to conduct electronic transactions. Independent
travel agents, online travel agents, and travel agencies are constantly relying on
GDS programs to find the best available travel and lodging at the best possible
prices for their customers. Agents will make (real—time) airline and hotel
reservations for clients, and their research and bookings will be completed in
minutes.
