Healthcare and Hygiene

I.

This is the image of an “overcrowded” government hospital situated in one of the northern states of
the country. The number of seriously ill-patients getting admitted to the hospitals is increasing
steadily over the past few years and overcrowding of the emergency wards is a common scenario
in most of the government health care centers today.

Discuss the medical consequences that may come about due to this in the hospital and the
consequences it have on patients. Suggest ideas to minimize these consequences occurring due
to overcrowding.

II.

Despite phenomenal development and widespread growth, there are ominous signs of the ills that
pervade the healthcare system. There has been a widespread use of spurious drugs that interfere
with proper treatment today all due to the lack of transparency throughout the healthcare system.

The Central and State Governments are not being able to regulate manufacture and sale of drugs
effectively. The need is to digitize the hospital administration for an efficient management.

Suggest ideas for digitization of medical system and highlight the impact in generating efficacy and
appropriateness of care regarding usage of spurious drugs.
III.

In the developing country like India, most of the cities are still in the transition towards better waste
management but they currently have insufficient collection and disposal of wastes. The need of the
hour is to employ less waste-generating lifestyle on the part of citizens to avoid any sort of
environmental and health risks.

Suggest simple habits that people can cultivate in their daily lives to minimize the household waste
production and/or ensure an efficient waste management along with a proper justification and
appropriate examples.

IV.

Cleanliness of the surroundings one lives in has to be a prime responsibility of any citizen and the
government. In India, there are myriad problems in most of the urban regions, including lack of
solid waste dumpsters, inadequate quality of cleaning service due to lack of funds and lack of
discipline among citizens.

Municipality of a city is looking forward to engage citizens and private businesses closely into
developing the improvement plan of cleanliness of the city.

How the model is going to be successful? Give reasons along with appropriate justifications
suggesting ideas to motivate the municipal workers.
V.

Drinking water must be free from components which may adversely affect the human health. A
large portion of the population in a lot of cities in our country suffers from health problems due to
the presence of microbiological contamination in water.

In fact, there are many different microbes that do enter the distribution systems through a wide
range of avenues; they survive there with some possessing the ability to grow too. In particular,
water comes in contact with any of the materials like human faeces, soil, plants etc. contaminating
it and making it imperfect for drinking, especially during monsoons.

The mean values of Total Coliform (T.C) at all the sampling locations before and after the monsoon
have been presented above. T.C group includes both faecal and environmental species causing
bacteriological contamination.

Do mention the possible reasons for bacteriological contamination and suggest ideas for making
the drinking water free of these contaminants and improving its quality.
