, ;rcraft ordered by Argentinas Aerolineas,
Skyways of London, and B.K.S. Air Trans-
port Ltd, are specially designed for pas-
s;nger/freight aircraft. The legs fold
;:nvards, enabling the installed seats to be
easily folded to the side of the fuselage.
The double-seat unit, stressed for 9g
forward-facing, weighs 421b with tip-up
seat cushions, fully-reclining and break-
back units, fold-down arms, meal tables
and glass holders.
The firm has also produced double,
triple and five-seat units stressed for both
forward- and aft-facing configurations for
Aviation Traders Carvairs.
Described by Short Brothers & Harland
Ltd as "one of the strongest and safest
available in the world today," the Type
SM.260 military passenger seat has been
ordered for the Comet C.4s of RAF Trans-
port Command and is in series production
at Short's general engineering division in
Newtownards. Developed from the Type
210 used in RAF Britannias, the 260 was
evolved in collaboration with the Institute
of Aviation Medicine; back inclination is
fully variable, double and triple units are
available, and all models have variable leg
position to suit a wide range of aircraft
types and are hinged to fold against the
wall for quick conversion to freighting or
casualty evacuation.
Aircraft Furnishing Ltd, of Lonsdale
Road, London W l l , whose lightweight
and "flyweight" seats have achieved con-
siderable success in both home and overseas
markets, are also specialists in first-class
and luxury seating. Their "De luxe 402"
double seat, 58in wide overall, has winged
backs reclinable through 15°-60° and pro-
vides an individual seat-width of 19£in.
Eetween the two centre arm-rests is a
built-in table and shelf unit for stowage of
magazines and personal oddments. Weigh-
ing 731b, this seat is claimed by its makers
to be the lightest and cheapest luxury seat
on the market; it is suited to such aircraft
as the Boeing 707, Douglas DC-8 and
Vickers VC10.
Aircraft Furnishing's 401 and 403 first-
class seats, smaller in overall but not in
individual width, are intended for such
aircraft as the Viscount, Caravelle and
BAC One-Eleven; they weigh 621b for a
double unit.

rigid panelling, soft furnishing and all

individual interior designs for custom-built
aircraft.
Crew seats for Short [Brothers & Har-
iand's Belfast freighter aircraft have been
designed by Western Manufacturing (Read-
ing) Ltd, the Aerodrome, Reading, Berks.
They are stressed for 12g forward facing
and, fully upholstered and equipped with

Teleflex inertia harnesses, their combined
weight totals 2561b. Both first and second
pilots' seats have adjustable reclining seat-
backs and fully adjustable arm-rests, which
fold back to allow access to the seats.
The engineer's seat has an elevation range
of 9in, with the axis of rotation changing
by only 1.3in.

offers a comprehensive range, including a
folding seat for mixed-duty aircraft.
Lancefield Aircraft Components Ltd,
Herries Street, London W10, are well
known as makers of seating in which low
weight is successfully reconciled with com-
fort and with completeness of equipment.
Lancefield have supplied seats for the
Comets of half-a-dozen well-known opera-
tors.
Seating and upholstery service, repairs
and renovations are offered by Westhill
Furnishings (Halifax) Ltd, Westhill Mills,
Hanover Street, Mossley, Lanes. They also
supply head-rest covers and all types of
aircraft and engine covers. A similar service
is offered by J. J. Benson Aircraft Interior
Furnishings Ltd, Southend Airport, Essex.
• Galley Equipment
AIRLINER galley equipment must allow
for maximum interchangeability of storage
units for different types of meal service.
It must combine sturdiness with low weight
and the ultimate in compactness; and for
food hygiene it must be easily cleanable and
free from dirt-catching nooks and crannies.

Mounted Police. In addition to interior
lighting, cables, relays and call systems of
every description, the company manufacture
ovens, grill boilers and boiling plates,
hot-cup units and every other type of galley
equipment. For BEA a new hot-cupboard
unit holds eight trays on which pre-cooked
meals are kept at a temperature suitable for
serving. A new beverage container has
also been introduced which, like the BEA
hot-cupboard, is distinguished from earlier
patterns by the "rigidized" stainless exterior
with welded interior seams planished and
polished to give a crevice-free joint.
A sheet-metal firm that has specialized
in producing galley equipment to the
rigorous specifications laid down by the
airlines is W. Henshall & Sons (Addlestone)
Ltd, Oyster Lane, Byfleet, Surrey, who make
not only complete galley units and re-
frigerators but also waste bins, containers
for cutlery and glass, and so on. The
company also make toilet units, luggage
racks, and reading lights.
Field Aircraft Services Ltd, 72 Wigmore
Street, London Wl, manufacture basic
galley units which, installed singly or in
multiples, and easily adaptable, will pro-
vide the catering capacity necessary in
almost any type or size of transport aircraft.
Component parts are kept to the minimum
and the unit is attractively faced with For-
mica and has stainless-steel work-tops and
sink unit. The basic unit, which fits between
the seat rails and overhead attachment
points, has an empty weight of about 1501b
and offers stowage for 64 laden meal trays.
