The Grid task allows us to create logical reference points in space to anchor our structural steel,
equipment and various other entities within Smart Plant 3D. To access the Grid Task from within
Smart Plant 3D, open the respective Project, and from the Tasks menu, select the “Grids” Task.

The action bar will be updated with the above icons. They are:

• Select
o If you have any objects selected within the model, or wish to deselect any objects
simply click on this icon and your selection will be reset.
• Place Linear Member System
o The Place Linear Member icon allows us to place various types of members (i.e.
Columns, Beams). Pressing and holding this icon pulls open the “Place Linear
Member System” actions list.

Place Linear Member System - Placement of Singular Linear Members.

Place Curve Member System - Placement of Singular Curved Members.

Place Bracing - Placement of Chevron and Cross bracing.

Place Framing Members - Placement of (n) Framing members.

Place Columns at Grid Intersections - Placement of Multiple Linear members

Structural Steel members are placed by Cardinal Points. These cardinal points are displayed in
the following way from within Smart Plant 3D.
