How to Teach English Through Song

1. Planning
Before we teach english through song we need to selecting the song based on what will
they learn in the lesson, language level, learners age, and cultural issues.

2. Listen to the song

First thing to do is just listening. We need to make it become a fun activity and don’t
make it too serious or boring, simply let them enjoy the music.

3. Listen to the song again, this time with lyrics and movement
This time, we should give learners the chance to read the lyrics to the song and added
some movement in the song. It will help students to easily remember the lyrics and
understand the meaning of the song.

4. Review
After all of the learners familiar with the song and the lyrics, we need to tell them the
meaning of the song and give them an exercise or assignment related to the song.

5. Developing listening, speaking skill and reinforcing grammar points

Teaching english through song will develop learners listening skill while listening to the
song and try to remembering the lyrics. Their speaking skill also improve while trying to sing
the song with correct pronounciation and also their grammar skill will improve because some
songs lend themselves naturally to teaching or reinforcing grammar points when the learners
know the meaning of the song.
