Have you ever noticed the huge number of Dengue cases in 2019? It
stands at 106,630 from January to June 2019. A National Dengue Alert
was declared by the Department of Health (DOH) on July 15,2019, as it
had been 106,630 Dengue cases reported from January 1 to June 28,
2019. We all know that mosquitoes may just hiding in every corner of
our room. Would you risk your families' health? We are all possible
victim of Dengue, one bite and then your blood counts begins to descend.
Our mission is to prevent Dengue cases, we need to come up with a new
prevention not just patches for kids, sticky spray with the scent of ginger,
but the old practice of the elders that we will be putting in a burning
wick.
III. Objectives:
*Gardeners plant Oregano in the garden to repel pests such as ants and
mosquitoes, and others claim that the scent and oil of oregano leaves is a
mosquito repellent.
*Mosquitoes detest the smell of citrus fruit, that's why the pomelo
strips can repel mosquitoes.
VIII. Methodology:
Our product, Herbitrus, a scented candle that can be use by anyone
ages 11+ and can be use anywhere at home, classrooms, offices, etc. This
product contains a scent that repels mosquitoes, it simply eliminate
mosquitoes around the corners as long as it reaches the scent. Also, it can be
use in air conditioned rooms. The product is made up of herbs and citrus
that's why we came up with its name. It contains garlic, lemongrass, pomelo,
and oregano that's been mixed in liquified wax and solidifies in a shot glass.
There are four steps in making our product. First step, the preparation, we
need to choose the best ingredients-The garlic, lemongrass, unripe pomelo,
and oregano. After the preparation, the ingredients will be boiled altogether.
Second step, after we boil the ingredients, we will seperate the water and the
ingredients, wait until the ingredients cools down and then we mashed all the
ingredients using pestle and mortar then we refrigerate the mashed
ingredients. Third step, we cut in strips the candle's wax, setting aside the
wick to be use afterwards. We put the strips in a microwavable container and
melt it. Meanwhile, we poured the mashed ingredients together the melting
wax. We let it sit there for a few minutes. Fourth step, while being mixed we
prepare the shot glass and adjust the position of the wick, then we poured the
melted wax into the shot glass and then waited until it solidifies.
