LESSON PLAN 4 – JOB, PROFESSION AND OCCUPATION

Sequence 1

• Correct the exercises. At first, “my sister works downtown”.


• The second is “The Simpsons”. The answers: Activity 1:
• Activity 3: 1 – Bart’s sister 2 –The father 3 – Homer’s
daughter 4 – Lisa’s brother 5 – The mother 6 – Homer’s son
7 – The aunt 8 – The parents
• Activity 4: 1 – brother 2 – sister 3 – father 4 – mother 5 –

• Activity 5: 1 – Bart 2 – Herb, Patty and Selma 3 – Bart, Lisa

• Ask some questions about the text:
1. what is the text about?
2. do you agree with the ideas on the text?
• Ask students about the vocabulary.
• Ask “where is your father/mother/sister/brother from?”
• Ask “where are your parents from?”
• Explain the use of “there is” and “there are”.
Examples: There is a rock on the way.
There are three slices of pizza in the fridge.
• Use the same sentences in the negative and interrogative forms.

Sequence 2

• Talk about the difference between job, profession and occupation.


• Present the pictures of professions in english. Ask students to repeat the names.
• Ask students what their professions are:
1. What is your profession? I am a…
• 2. What is your father’s profession? He is a/an…
• 3. What is your mother’s profession? She is a/an…
• 4. What are your parents’ professions? My mother is a/an… and my father is a/an… They are...
• 5. What are your professions? I am a/an… He/She is a/an...
• Ask if they wanna know about another job or profession. Comment about other jobs and
professions: stylist, seamstress/dressmaker, postman/mailman, seller/salesman, cook, etc.
• Ask students to do the first activity. Correct the activity with them.
• Ask students to do the second activity about the crossword puzzle. Correct with them.

Sequence 3

• Ask students to keep the material in their bags and sit in groups of 4 or 5.
• Distribute flashcards to make a game. The students have to mime (make mimics) the flashcards
they received and the other students have to guess which profession is.
• Talk about the activity for home.
• Talk about the test on September 30th:
