My name is Ruel B. Concepcion, I am your accredited competency assessor for Shielded Metal Arc
Welding (SMAW) NC II.

I would like to acknowledge the presence of Ms. Babes Insular our representative from TESDA Provincial
Office and Ms. Mel Nuezca, our AC Manager.

You do not have to worry about their presence. They are here to oversee the conduct of competency
assessment and to check if the conduct is in accordance with the prescribed competency assessment
methodology and procedures. They will not assess you.

Before I start, let me first check your attendance.

Please present to me your admission slip once your name is called.

I have here with me your accomplished self-assessment guide. This is an indication that you know and
can perform all the units of competency enumerated in this qualification.

Today, I am going to administer competency assessment for Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II.

It is the Qualification level with 4 core units of competencies

These are:

1. Perform root pass

2. Clean root pass

3. Filling pass

4. Perform capping

Assessment shall focus on these core units of competencies. The basic and common units shall be
integrated or assessed concurrently with the core units.

To attain the National Certificate, you must demonstrate competence in all the units of competency
mentioned. Successfully candidate shall be awarded a National Certificate signed by the TESDA Director
General.

The context of purpose of this assessment is to identify your level of competency for Shielded Metal Arc
Welding

The task to be performed and the evidences to be collected include (Direct Observation, Oral interview
and Written test)

During the conduct of the assessment, you have to use your personal protective equipment like;
darkening glass, coverall, gloves, safety shoes, chipping hammer and steel brush.

As a candidate, you have the right to make an appeal should you not agree with my decision on the
result of the assessment. You may write a letter address to the AC Manager of your appeal.

Let us now procced to the Assessment Area, candidate #1, you stay in this area, candidate #2 you stay in

You have with you all the materials, tools and equipment required to complete tasks. Please check
them.
Here is your Specific Instructions. Please read it with me.

1. Using the materials, tools and equipment, you are required to perform the 4 core
competency of SMAW within 2 hours. I will be observing you while you are performing the
tasks.

2. After your demonstration, I will ask you some questions related to your demonstration.

3. You may call me when there is a need for me to translate or explain items for clarification.

4. After the questioning portion, I will give you feedback about your performance.

5. Please observe safety at all times.

6. Any questions/clarification? If there are no more question, you may start now. Time starts
now.

Mr./Ms./Mrs. LORETO CANTO, you were doing good. You performed the tasks within the standard
requirements of the Qualification and these are:

1. Perform root pass

2. Clean root pass

3. Filling pass

4. Perform capping

With that, I found you to be competent for Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II. Congratulation!

Please sign the Rating Sheets and the CARS (Competency Assessment Results Summary)

You can get National Certificate from the TESDA Provincial Office located at Talisay City. Do you know
where it is located? It is at Capitan Sabi St., Talisay City. Don’t forget to bring with you your 2X2 pictures,
P125.00 and your CARS. The AC Manager will give you your CARS. Again, CONGRATULATIONS

Mr./Ms/Mrs. MICHAEL TAN although you were able to perform All the task. However, I am sorry to
inform you that you were not able to perform within the standard requirements of the Shielded Metal
Arc Welding specifically on areas such as Perform Capping. You have to review/practice the CAPPING,
considering that PERFORMING CAPPING is one of the specific core competencies in SMAW. You should
review more and practice to pass the assessment.

Therefore at this time, you are not yet competent for SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING NC II

You can come back for reassessment when you feel confident enough that you have acquired the
competence. Don’t worry you will only be reassessed on the parts of the activity that you were found
not yet competent.
