Communication

All employers look for potential employees with


excellent communication skills. Apart from
verbal, written, and non-verbal communication,
excellent communication skills also require the
person to be a good listener. An employee with
good communication skills can communicate well
with clients, stakeholders, team members, and
can succeed in both personal situations and
workplace environments. Such an employee is
surely counted as an asset to the organisation.

What will I learn After Completing the Lessons in this


Competency?

At a broad level, during this competency, you will:

 Be able to know the importance of communication


 Be able to have daily-conversations about yourself, routine, hobbies,
weather, places, and so on
 Learn about non-verbal communication or body language
 Practice active listening
 Learn how to prepare for a job interview and group discussion
 Gain negotiation skills, assertiveness, selling skills, and so on.

What Items Do I Need to Get Started?

To complete this course effectively, you will need the following:

 Pencils/pens & Notepad to take personal notes


 Smartphone or computer
 Wireless access to Internet
 Earphones/Headphones

How Will I Be Evaluated?

You will be evaluated upon completion of all the lessons within each competency.
For example, upon starting each 21st Century Core Competency based on your
job-level, you will be tested in the following ways:

 Pre-assessment:
 You will have to attempt the Pre-assessment test in the beginning.
 Your score in this quiz will NOT determine your final score. However,
this will help you understand your current level of skills and then
unlock the set of lessons in the selected competency.
 There will be between 5 to 20 questions per pre-assessment.

 Simulated assessments (Do):


 This refers to the Do-Test Mode within the lesson.
 After you complete this exercise, you will receive a score, which will
determine your final score on the competency.
 The passing score is 80 points or above.
 You can re-attempt the Do-Test to improve your score.

 Post-assessment:
 After you have completed all the lessons of the competency within
your job-level, your understanding and learning will be tested
through the Post-assessment quiz.
 The passing score is 70 points and above.

 Projects:
 At the end of each competency, you will have to complete a project.
 This includes different assignments such as case studies, research,
role-plays, and so on.

What Does Each Lesson


Include?

Each lesson has 5 components:

1. Watch,
2. Think,
3. Do,
4. Collaborate, and
5. Explore.

You will attempt each of these components in


sequence, to gain the most out of each
lesson.

1. Watch
Duration: Approximately 5 minutes

 This is a short video that you will watch to understand the concept
discussed in the lesson.
 You can pause the video at any time to take notes.
 If you are taking the lessons in a classroom, you can ask the
facilitator any doubts or queries.
 You can replay the video as many times as you like.

2. Think
Duration: 5 minutes

 You will attempt the Think component after watching the Watch
video.
 This will include a few questions for you to answer. They could be
multiple-choice or drag-and-drop questions.

 The questions are based on the concepts discussed in the Watch


video.

3. Do – Play Mode & Test Mode


Play Mode Duration: 10 minutes
Test Mode Duration: 10 minutes

 The Play Mode is a practice exercise for you and includes one real-
life scenario. You will watch this video, listen carefully to what is
being said, and answer a few questions.
You will receive feedback on each of your answers.

 The Test Mode also includes one real-life scenario. You will watch
this video, listen carefully to what is being said, and answer a few
questions.
You will NOT receive feedback on your answers.
Your performance will be graded. To pass the lesson, you will have
to score 80 or more points in the Do – Test Mode.

4. Collaborate
Duration: 20 minutes

 The Collaborate component includes three types of Activities based


on the concepts discussed in the lesson: Classroom, Community,
and Online.

 After you complete an activity, make sure that you type your
experience in the Typing Box under each activity. This will help your
evaluators know that you have attempted the activity, what all you
did, and how your experience was.

 Here are the details about each activity:

1. You will attempt the Classroom activity if you are taking the
lesson in a classroom setting. You should participate in the activity
with the intention of making a new friend, while also learning from
each other. After you complete the Classroom activity, if time
allows, you are welcome to attempt the Community and Online
activities.
2. The Online activity will allow you to interact and collaborate with
your friends, peers, or colleagues in an online space using
messengers, chatting applications, e-mails, and so on.
3. The Community activity will allow you to interact and collaborate
with other people from your home, neighbourhood, school, town,
and so on. This will help you gain confidence and learn from the
experiences of others.

5. Explore
Duration: >10 minutes

 The Explore component includes online links to additional resources


to help you learn more about the concept covered in the lesson, if
you want to.
 Here you will find articles to read and videos to watch, to further aid
your learning.
 You are encouraged to devote some additional time, whether in class
or at home, to explore these resources.

Instructions

 The lessons in this course are designed in such a way that you can take
each lesson entirely on your own, or as part of a classroom-batch led by a
teacher/facilitator.

 The lessons in this course are self-paced, which means that you can take
each lesson anytime and anywhere, using a smart phone or a computer
with internet access.

 You are encouraged to complete one lesson entirely, in one-go, to have the
best learning experience.

For example, if you begin one lesson at 2 PM today, you should complete
the whole lesson until 3 PM without any distraction or disturbance.
