Big friendly giant

by Sapphira Rizkitania

This movie is fantastic. I was just looking at the time and wondering that movie should never end. Sophie, a
ten-year-old girl from the orphanage who gets trapped with a giant that actually a really kind giant so, she is
safe with him. She was really scared at the beginning, but then she realized the big giant is really friendly. I
love the way this movie tells us about how almighty watches over us. What an imagination of the writer and
the way Steven Spielberg presented this movie. The animated characters are amazing, I like them a lot. I
honestly teared up while watching this movie. The story line is so much wonderful, that I can’t describe it in
just one word. The big friendly giant is just a loner with sad eyes and expressive ears who catches and bottles
dreams, but who is plagued by a guilty secret. I’ve never thought dreams can be collected by someone,
especially a giant. It’s surprisingly amazing. He collects the dreams alone, and then gave it to everyone in the
world with his trumpet. He can mix the dreams to make another one. That’s wonderful.

When Sophie chases after dreams, at first she said she can't do it but the BFG says she can. Her chasing
showed that our efforts to run behind dreams will be rewarded. Also, it’s touching to know that the BFG can
hear the tears someone is shedding for their beloved ones. When the BFG says that the Red dreams are those
that say there's no forgiveness and reminds you of your past mistakes, I teared up because that's exactly what
our treacherous heart keeps saying to us. It keeps telling us through dreams and through guilty conscience that
we are unforgivable. In this entire universe only our hearts never forgive us or make us forget our mistakes,
even the Almighty God himself forgives us completely. Yet these beautiful things were depicted in such a
clear way in the movie. Oh, I also love the ending where Sophie says a good morning to the BFG and he can
hear all the way till the giant country.

But, there’s a few things that kind of annoyed me when I watching this movie. There are other giants here.
They're scary, stupid bullies, and so big that they tower over the BFG the way he towers over Sophie. They
love to eat people, whom they call "human beans," or simply "beans." When Sophie hides from the bigger
giants and they clomp around looking for her, the first thing the BFG does is find Sophie's glasses and hide
them in his pocket. He does it so that the bigger giants won't see them and know for sure that he's hiding a
child, but there's a more basic motivation: to prevent them from getting crushed. Another thing is, showing a
child jumping out of a high window while believing she will be saved from serious injury or death by someone
she cannot see is utterly insane. I’m afraid kids out there might think to do the same, but will get the injuries
instead.
