clear to the class Mr./Ms. (Students will read the following sentences)
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that
may be physical, mental, sensory, emotional,
These impairments result in restrictions on an individual’s developmental, or some combination of these.
ability to participate in what is considered “normal” in the
society. An individual is also prevented from attaining life
chances because society imposes restrictions on impaired
people.

I will show you different pictures and I want you to describe Different pictures
the picture afterwards.

Okay/ Thank you! / Very good! / Very well. (Students will give their description)

People who are totally fit in body and mind are described
as ‘able bodied’ and those who have some kind of physical
or mental impairment are described as ‘disabled’.

Again, what do you call those people who are totally fit in
body and mind?

Very good! Sir! “Able bodied”.

What about those people who have some kind of physical

or mental impairment?

Very well! “Disabled” Sir.

So what is Disability discrimination? Mr. / Ms. Kindly read

the meaning of disability discrimination.
(the student will read the following sentences)
Disability discrimination means treating individuals
differently because of their disability, perceived
disability, or association with an individual with a
Okay, thank you! disability.
People experience discrimination in a number of ways
especially those persons with disabilities (PWDs) and those
person who have a connection with a disabled person.

There are types of disability discrimination. It can be direct

and indirect discrimination.

Direct discrimination is a discrimination arising from a

disability (example: they bully Juan because he is blind)
while Indirect discrimination is discrimination by
association (example: they laugh at Maria because of her
blind son).

Activity

I prepared an activity. We are going to play “Game ka na

ba?” Okay, I will give examples of direct and indirect
disability discrimination and you are going to determine
whether it is direct or indirect disability discrimination. Examples:

1. They bully Batman because he is blind.

2. Spiderman is not accepted because he is mute.
3. They hate Wonderwoman because her daughter is
mentally retarded.
4. Captain America experienced discrimination because
his father is physically handicapped.
5. They don't like Black Panther because he is deaf.
6. They laugh at Catwoman because her mother is
mute and deaf.
Application (students will participate in the activity)

I want you to watch this 2 minutes TV Commercial entitled

#CreateCourage-Rouge One, A Star Wars Story and then
You are going to answer the following questions: (Students will watch a video clip and later they will
answer the following questions)
1. What is the message of the clip?
2. What values can we get from the clip?
3. What are your realizations after watching the clip?
4. As a youth what can you do to prevent/ get rid of
disability discrimination? (the students will give their answer)

Generalization

In today’s lesson it is significant that we must accept and

respect each other in spite of our differences. We should
observe just and fair treatment regardless of being a
“disabled” person or not. Moreover, we must give
assistance to those people who needs our help especially
those persons with disabilities (PWDs) and we should
discourage discrimination because of disability.
