Title: Understanding the Basics

Week Number: Four

When I was in high school, I had this teacher who is very kind and very soft

spoken. But she has that characteristic that makes us listen to her attentively and we

will do our best in every activity. Even those our “boys at the back” classmates, which

are the problems of our other teachers, they will listen to her and do those activity she

will deliver to us. And other than that she is our first teacher in the afternoon and her

subject is Trigonometry. As our high school days goes by, I heard one of my classmates

says “Kahit mahirap yung subject ni Mam Pie, nag eenjoy ako kasi tinuturo nya ng

naiintindihan mo”. I admit that I do not enjoy algebra, finding X and Y, trigonometry and

others, but when she is our teacher she just influenced us in teaching us the basics and

she taught us the techniques in an easy way. And in every topic at the end of our

session she would always give us life lessons that is congruent to the topic. I still

remembered what she said – “Life is just like the complementary and supplementary

angles, there are those persons who would complement you and there are those who

would supplement problems along the way, but always remember they are ones who

would make you stronger and take it as a challenge”.

In my own point of view, our Trigonometry teacher – Ma’am Pie is a great

teacher and a great leader. She is the best of both worlds. She would stoop down to the
level of her students in order to teach her complicated lessons in an easy way. Just like

a leader to her constituents. She would even encourage us to do our best in every

activity and boost our confidence in answering those complicated problems. And even

though she is soft spoken, she has that authority that makes everybody listen.

She is our only teacher that will tell us to aim high and achieve all that we can be.

She has that vision to her constituents, a positive attitude that we can do those difficult

things and she touches our lives through her teachings.

She is a great leader to her students. And I can proudly say that she is one of the

reasons why I am a teacher.

She has those characteristics of a great leader – confidence, positive attitude,

influencing her constituents and inspiring them. And of course, touching their lives in her

own ways.

These things are just the basics of becoming a great leader. a combination of

both or different techniques. But these attitudes will only be implemented depending on

the situation. As Sir always says “it depends”.

Having a great power is equal to a great responsibility. Being a leader will always

be that person they will look up to and has a great expectations to those people around

him. In our chosen field as a teacher, there were different people you would meet and

mingle with. It is up to you on how to talk to them and how to approach them. Take for

instance, inside our classroom, we will meet different kinds of individuals having

different personalities. And as a leader of our own classroom, the first thing that we

would do is to get to know them and their interest. So that, we would know how to

motivates them in our every lesson.

Second we would implement some rules and regulations to build discipline to our

students. For them to follow the rules, we must show to them that we are doing what we

are implementing. In this way, we are also setting ourselves as a good example for

them.

Third, we would stoop down to their level, for us to know what they can do and

cannot do. In an organization like the school, we must help each other, hand in hand.

As the saying goes, no man is an island. Knowing your students strengths and

weaknesses, is the vital key to know what aspect you need to develop.
Lastly, we must implement words of encouragement to our constituents. In a way

we must influenced them in our own ways.

There are different ways and techniques on how to become a leader. But it is

always up to us on how to implement those techniques to our constituents.
