Agriculture
The value of water use products for agriculture is
usually calculated from the total value obtained (market
price unit multiplied by volume) per m3 of water used.

The value of 1m3 of water for rice cultivation is

relatively low, ranging from VND 1,000 to VND 3,000

The efficiency of water use for rice production in

the basin has very low economic value.

Industry
The value of water use products by industry is
calculated by evaluating the total value of
industrial products.

Estimated to make 1 million dong of industrial GDP,

need to use 25m3 of water, so the average value of 1m3
of water is about 40,000 VND, 10 times more than
agriculture.

11
Domestic water supply
The value of water-consuming products for daily-
life water supply is the price of water consumed by
users.

In Day – To Lich River Basin, most of the provinces

collect water for domestic use of VND 2,500 / m3,
but the cost of treating 1 m3 of water is higher,
about VND 4,000 / m3.

4. AFFECTS OF
WATER POLLUTION
Water Borne Diseases

Heavy pollution made the socio-economic

development in Ha Noi unsustainable.

The pollution was not confined to rivers

but extened to neighbouring areas as
well causing illness and disease and
even epidemics

Black with scum and sludge, foul

smelling and incapable of supporting
life

Food Poisoning
Coliform bacteria – which
normally lives in the colons of
humans and animals and is a
major source of food
poisoning

Heavy metals that are

toxic to humans, fish and
animals
Chemical Pollution

Pesticides can:
Cause injury to the liver

 Cause reproductive damange

 Damange DNA and be the root of

an assortment of cancers.

 Distress and injure the nervous system

 Cause addition severe toxic effects.

Water pollution on rivers in Important to devise methods

in particular is indeed a very pollution that the river is
serious concern currently facing
