Inessa’s CER-CER
As the friction force increases, the time it takes to reach maximum speed also increases. This
means that it takes longer to reach maximum speed so the object will be slower. According to Data
Table and Bar Graph #1, when there was no friction, it took 5.46 seconds to reach maximum speed.
However, when there was lots of friction, it took 17.42 seconds to reach maximum speed. This shows
that when there was more friction, it took way longer to reach the maximum speed, making the object
be slower. This connects to unbalanced forces since an unbalanced force is when an object moves
because one force is greater than the other. In this simulation, this is an example of an unbalanced
force since the box does have motion. Since the box moved even when friction was increased, it shows
that one of the forces is greater.
In addition, in this simulation I also observed that as the applied force increases, the time to reach
maximum speed decreases. This means that since it took less time to reach maximum speed, then
the object moved faster. According to data table and bar graph #2, when there were 300N of applied
force it took 17.36 seconds to reach maximum speed. When there was 500N of applied force, it took
5.17 seconds to reach maximum speed. This shows that as the applied force increased from 300N to
500N , the time went down from 17.36 to 5.17 seconds. Since the time went down it means it took less
time to reach maximum speed, and as a result the box moved faster. This connects to the 2nd law of
motion that states F=ma. This formula means that when you apply more force, the more the object will
move or the faster it will accelerate in this simulation, I observed the object going faster as the applied
force was increased.
In summary, the Friction force slows down the object while the applied force speeds up an object.
