FANTASTIC FIRST GRADE!

October Newsletter
Dear Parents

Your children have been working hard in First Grade and have started the year off with a
successful month! The monthly First Grade newsletter will give you information about what we
are doing and what we are learning in each subject. We look forward to a wonderful October!

*Please be sure your child is on time to school. We expect students to be at

the gym at 7:30. Instruction begins promptly at 7:40.*

***Parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled the week of October 14th.

**Remember the Box Top drive extends through October 21st! Turn in as
many Box Tops as you can find to your child’s teacher to earn money for
Becker!**

Language Arts

Reading and writing is a major focus in First Grade, so we are building the
foundation for the rest of the year. We will be learning about story
elements, expository texts, rhyming, comprehension skills and the writing
process. Remember to read to and with your child daily 20-30 minutes!

Science

We will be focusing on Investigating Energy in the next few weeks with a

focus on magnets and motion. Work with your child on their vocabulary
words so they can talk like a scientist!

Math

We are learning about addition and subtraction facts and the many different
ways we can solve problems. Help your child become a more fluent
mathematician by practicing their facts with them!

Social Studies

The focus is on Celebrations

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Focus: Compassion
