Failure is the best teacher to make you be a better person.

Assalamu’alaikum . . .

Before graduating from Hasanuddin University Makassar, I had dream to continue my master degree
abroad since it provide the better quality of education and networking for the future, but it was just a
dream. I don’t know when I will reach it. Now, I am going to share you about my failures in obtaining the
dream.

University of Birmingham is one of the top Ten University in UK based on Times Higher Education 2016. It
is located in the second biggest city in England, after London. Gita Gutawa accomplished her Bachelor
degree here in the major of Economic Development. Two month ago, I accepted to be the student of the
University of Birmingham in the program MSc MORSE for 2017. Now, I should be in Birmingham to register
for the full-time course, take picture in Old Joe (It looks like London Tower), or visit the Cadbury World
Exhibition to eat some Cadbury chocolate as Dairy Milk. But I could not go there.

“Why? Is not it cool to study overseas? How asinine you are!!!”

The answer is I do not have any money to continue my education in UoB since I have to spent money
about 400 million just for tuition fees. It is out of living cost, housing, books, and many more.

Besides, I also obtained Unconditional Offer from University of Leicester in the program MSc Actuarial
Science and I did not take it as similar as University Of Birmingham because of Money, Money, and Money.
For your information, People who graduated from this science can be an Actuary. This profession is the
most wanted by some insurance companies, banks, and consultant groups in Indonesia now such as
Jiwasraya, Jasa Raharja, Prudential, BPJS and so on. For the new one, they can earn salary 30 to 50 million
in a month. Can you imagine what will be your life later? I just can say a word “PROSPEROUS”.

“Why didn’t you apply for scholarship?”

I have tried but when I was in the last step to submit my application, the system could not receive it since
my English requirement did not meet the standard score. It needed 6.5 but I just got 6.0. But in the
previous year, It could be accepted if the applicant had Unconditional Offer from the University. I had it,
but the institution have remade the newer one.

“Did not you feel sorrowful and crestfallen?”

Yeah, I did. It was once in a blue moon to have chance like this and when I had an offer letter, I had no
sponsorship for scholarship to pay it all. While I want it the most to study there since it can lead me to
pursue my dream to be a data analyst, risk assessor, problem solver and consultant.

What is more, two years ago, I almost acquired scholarship from the University of Edinburgh. It is one of
the top five University in UK after Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, and Kings College London. It is located in
Scotland which is popular with a New Year celebration called Hogmanay. They would like to give me full
scholarship for 2 to 3 years where I could not get from any other Universities in UK, yet as usual, I did not
meet the English requirement.

Then, this year, I also applied Australian Award Scholarship. It is given by the government of Australia to
Indonesian who want to continue their master and doctoral degree in that Country. I was unsuccessful in
the first step of the selection.
Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are in the same boat guys. You have a friend who used to deal with breakdown or failure. I could not
reach my dream in pursuing my education abroad and so could you. Some of you could not be accepted
in the state university as Young Will Obscene, Bella, . . . , while the others were unacceptable to be police
for this year like Pace, Kholis, Hilal, Alwi, Korea, Jabon and many more.

We have tried our best either in studying or praying but The God did not permit us yet to pursue our
dream. I believe he has prepared something unexpectedly for us later and it might surprise you, you and
you. Therefore, don’t be sad too long because you still have another chance and probably it will be the
best for you.

I think that’s all, I am Handsome and I love dealing with failure.
