Introduction

Good personal hygiene is essential in promoting good health by keeping

bacteria, viruses, and illnesses at bay. Proper hand washing remains the most effective

way of removing germs and harmful bacteria from the hands. This prevents the spread

of diseases and keeps the environment safe, fresh, and clean. Bacteria eventually

attached on personal items such as mobile phones, clothes, door knobs and into your

body. Which is why it is of utmost importance to properly wash the hands since that is

the first line of defence against the bacterial contamination. Due to the importance of

personal hygiene, the proponents decided to introduce a personal hygiene product.

1.1 Product History

This feasibility study has been the product of collective ideas that has been

analyzed by its seven proponents. After carefully observing the market and due to

recent increased in food related disease, they surmised that the market needs personal

hygiene products. This is especially true for establishments that are frequented by lots

of customers. Mr. Musni suggested to make liquid hand soap since it is common in

comfort rooms in restaurants, leisure and lodging establishments.

Creating a liquid hand soap that is noticeable by a market that has numerous

branded and independent players. In order to differentiate the proposed product, the

proponents incorporate extract from talahib roots which contains properties that is

antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent that are present even in synthetic liquid

hand soaps.

1.2 Facts on the Primary Raw Materials

Talahib is a common perennial grass that is native in the Philippines. It is usually

used as feeds for grazing and penned livestock (NTFP-EP, 2016). Aside from this, its

roots was traditionally used by Indians as medicine for soothing irritated skin, healing

wounds, relieving inflamed painful joints, erectile dysfunctions, and other reproductive

and respiratory ailments. Based on the study of Alvarez (2013), extract from talahib has

cleaning properties and can offer as a cheap alternative in other synthetic ingredients

needed. For the present study, its root extracts will be used as antibacterial and anti-

inflammatory or as cleaning agent and making the liquid hand soap as good even for

hands with cuts or bruises.

Coconut Oil has recently became popular due to touted health benefits such as

decreasing belly fat, curbing appetite, and preventing heart disease (Harvard School of

Public Health, 2017). Like talahib, coconut and its by-products coconut oil are abundant

in the Philippines (Pham, 2016). Its function in the concocted liquid hand soap is that it

will act as the moisturizer for the hands since its oil properties help maintain the

moisture of the skin.

Boric Acid is used to adjust the liquid soap’s alkalinity in order to create a mild

soap. Aside from that, it helps in avoiding clouding or soap breakup. Its neutralization

properties along with coconut oil helps in controlling the overall properties of the liquid

hand soap’s pH and appearance (SBM Crafters LLC, 2018).

Lye Solution is used in breaking down dirt which is an essential element for soap

in cleaning (Thompson, 2019). Lye solution’s concentration in talahib liquid hand soap is

significantly lower since talahib has antibacterial properties that could partly substitute

the function of lye solution.

Soap dye will be used in order to improve the appeal of the liquid hand soap. Dye

of green will be used in order for the liquid hand soap to be more appealing.

Evergreen essential oil will be used as the scent of the liquid hand soap. Its

function is to create a mild scent that will linger even after hand washing.

 The proponents will establish the business in Telabastagan, City of San

Fernando, Pampanga wherein the main consideration is its availability, accessibility,

and distance from highly urbanized residential subdivisions. Its space and high ceiling is

enough to space both the office and production facility of the business.

1.3.1 Company Name

The name of the company is Hygieia Manufacturing Company which originated

from the Greek Goddess of Health, Cleanliness, and Sanitation (Thastma, 2017) that

the company’s main product wishes to portray. Meanwhile, manufacturing company

pertains to the nature of the business which is to produce goods that are beneficial to

the society. As a partnership, the business will register its name in Securities and

Exchange Commission (SEC) in Pasay City. Based on initial assessment using

Business Name Registration Search, there is no existing business that have the name

Hygieia Manufacturing Company.

 The present project have seven proponents that gathered and shared information

in the writing of this feasibility from idea generation, market study, and the each parts of

the study.

1.3.3 Vision

Hygeia Manufacturing Company aims to be recognized as a prime producer of

liquid hand soap in Pampanga within the next 3 – 5 years.

1.3.4 Mission

To deliver quality product that aims to provide alternative liquid hand soap using

natural ingredients and utilizing natures abundance of grass.

The figure above shows the company logo of Hygieia Manufacturing Company. It

symbolizes the main ingredient of the proposed liquid soap which is talahib with its dark

shade of green that psychologically signifies growth, abundance, nature, and prosperity.

From the leaves of talahib are water drops that slowly drips toward an outstretched

palm which not only shows the liquid hand soap originating from talahib leaves but also

the understated elegance that represents endless inspiration.

1.3.6 Product Name

The name of the product is nature’s care since the Talahib Liquid Hand Soap is

positioned as a product that aims to mildly care the users palm through its carefully

chosen and measured materials. Talahib Liquid Hand Soap not only cleans but also

gave a whole new perspective in the possible usage of Talahib.
