CHAPTER 1:
PROJECT
BACKGROUND

1
DON HONORIO VENTURA STATE
UNIVERSITY
San Juan, Mexico, Pampanga

HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

According to Roman legend, soap was named after Mount Sapo, an

ancient site of animal sacrifices. The word “sapo” first appears in a book
written in Latin titled “Natural History” by Pliny and Elder an academic from
Pompeii. The first concrete evidence we have of soap-like substance is
dated around 2800 B.C. An excavation of ancient Babylon revealed evidence
that Babylonians were the first one to master the art of making soap, as
well as the Mesopotamians, Egyptians and the ancient Greek and Romans.
Soap is a product for cleaning made from natural ingredients that may
include both plant and animal products, such as animal fats, olive or
coconut oil. Soap wasn’t made and used for bathing and personal hygiene
but was rather produced for cleaning cooking utensils or goods or was used
for medicine purposes for at least 5000 years.

The meaning of the term "soap" has changed over time. Soap that was
formerly solely used for washing kitchen utensils and medicine can now be
used for hygiene, cleaning clothes, cleaning the house, and a variety of
other things.

Soap is something that practically everyone uses, usually many times a

day, and it's one of the most important tools for preventing the spread of
bacterial and infections. However, not all soaps are suitable for skin. Some
might have encounter skin irritation. Our skin is sensitive in chemicals.
Some companies now make soaps that include chemicals that can disrupt
hormones, causes allergies, cause reproductive problems, and increase the
risk of some cancers this soap is known as the “Commercially Made Soap”.
Commercially made soap causes problems for many people since instead of
mending our skin, it damages it. Unlike natural soap, they start with natural
ingredients that help the skin to grow, live, and be healthy. Natural soaps
are prepared with components found in nature or obtained from living
organisms, primarily plants. Natural soaps have a variety of benefits that we
can take advantage of. Soaps that have natural ingredients are highly
favored by many consumers due to several factors such as caring for
sensitive skin, faster and better healing of damaged skin and lesser harm to
the environment brought about by harmful chemicals.

And, we, proponents, chose to create a natural soap that is healthy for
the skin, particularly for individuals with sensitive skin. It can be used either
as facial and body soap. We decided to come-up with a unique soap that
consumers can carry wherever they go, it is what we called “Soap on the
Go”.

PROPOSED NAME OF THE BUSINESS

One of the most important things to prepare when starting a business is

a business name. The business is called "Savon Heros," which is a French
phrase that means "soap hero" implying that soap is our hero that we can
take with us wherever we go. It is made of natural materials and does not
include any chemicals.

COMPANY LOGO

Figure 1: Company Logo

EXPLANATION OF THE LOGO

Savon Heros is a French phrase which means “Soap Heroes”. We,

proponents named it “Heros” because soap is our hero in terms of cleaning
our body. The image of bag with mini soaps represents “On the Go” which
means consumers can bring it wherever they go. The leaf represents those
soaps are made-up of natural ingredients which can be found in plants.
Brown, yellow and orange represents the color of soaps which are Coffee
oats, Tomato and Lemon. We also added a little touch of fragrance in every
soap like Cinnamon, Rose and Lemon. A simple yet significant logo that can
quickly capture the attention of everyone.

Savon Heros is a handmade soap that are small in
Flavored Soap
sizes. They are good for all skin types, especially
sensitive skin, and focuses on cleansing, exfoliating,
and moisturizing our skin using ingredients derived from fruits and
vegetables such as lemon, tomatoes, and coffee oats. Addition to that, we
also added some fragrance oil in it.

The first product is the coffee oats flavored soap, which portrays a hand
holding a brown soap, indicating that it is a handmade soap, and is
surrounded by coffee grains, which are the soap's primary ingredient. It also
includes the tagline "You BEAN so much to me."

The second product is the tomato flavored soap, which portrays a hand
holding an orange soap, indicating that it is a handmade soap, and is
surrounded by tomatoes, which are the soap's primary ingredient. It also
includes the tagline "To-Matoe-SoulMate."

The third product is the lemon zest flavored soap, which portrays a hand
holding a yellow soap, indicating that it is a handmade soap, and is
surrounded by lemon fruits, which are the soap's primary ingredient. It also
includes the tagline "You’re the Zest!"

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

You may not have realized it yet, but soap can help you battle infections
and disease, which is why it is so important. Soap is quite significant in
today's society. Soaps allow us to keep our body clean and free of dirt. We
decided to make a handmade natural soap that can be used either facial,
hand and body soap. We all know that some of us have sensitive skin that
they tend to have difficulties in choosing what hygiene to use for their body.
Savon Heros is a soap that cater everyone including those who have
sensitive skin. We come up on the idea of “On the Go” that contains natural
products like lemon, tomatoes and coffee oats that has no harmful effect in
our skin. They impove skin texture, revive dull skin, lighten dark spots, treat
acne and pores and many more to mention benefits.

We, proponents agreed in this product so that we can help those

consumers who are struggling on what to buy soaps that is suitable for
them. This feasibility study aims to prove that natural soaps are a better
alternative from the usual soaps we see on the supermarket shelves due to
the aforementioned reasons. Savon Heros is a product that would answer
the demand of Filipinos for quality natural soap at an affordable price.
