NARRATIVE REPORT IN DEWORMING

July 17, 2017

The Department of Health (DOH) continues its nationwide drive to eliminate intestinal
parasitism in children. The DOH in partnership with the Department of Education (DEPED)
and local government units (LGUs) are distributing anti-helminthic drugs during the National
Deworming Month (NDM), a twice a year campaign held during the months of January and
July. The NDM is done by synchronizing the schedules of Mass Drug Administration for Soil
Transmitted Helminths (STH) in the schools and the community.

NDM is being done because STH is a public health problem that has detrimental
impact on children’s growth and development. STH can cause anemia, malnutrition,
weakness, impaired physical and cognitive development resulting to poor growth and school
performance in children.

Among the 686 total learners in San Pedro National High School, 569 learners have
been dewormed. In Grade 7, 120 learners are dewormed (44 – 4P’s and 76 – Non 4P’s).
Among the Grade 8, 153 learners are dewormed (59 – 4P’s and 94 – Non 4P’s). While in
Grade 9, among the 139 enrollees, 93 learners are only dewormed, (37 – 4P’s and 56 Non
4P’s). And in Grade 10, 129 learners are dewormed (36 – 4P’s and 93- Non 4P’s). In the
Senior High School, out of 107 enrollees, only 74 learners have been dewormed.

The percentage of the learners dewormed are lower compare to the previous years.
We, the MAPEH Department are thankful for the support given by the parents and teachers.
Let us continue supporting the National Deworming Month.

NARRATIVE REPORT IN DEWORMING

August 5, 2016

School-age children typically have the highest intensity of worm infection of

any age group. In addition, the most cost-effective way to deliver
deworming pills regularly to children is through schools because schools offer
a readily available, extensive and sustained infrastructure with a skilled
workforce that is in close contact with the community.

With support from the local health system, teachers can deliver the drugs
safely. Teachers need only a few hours training to understand the rationale
for deworming, and to learn how to give out the pills and keep a record of
their distribution. Regular deworming contributes to good health and nutrition
for children of school age, which in turn leads to increased enrolment and
attendance, reduced class repetition, and increased educational
attainment. The most disadvantaged children – such as girls and the poor –
often suffer most from ill
health and malnutrition, and gain the most benefit from deworming.

The total learners enrolled at San Pedro National High School are 706. The
percentage of learners have been dewormed are almost 96% , the total
learners have been dewormed are 700. The total learners in Grade 7 are 149,
and 148 have been dewormed, one learner is not dewormed due to sickness.
In the Grade 8, over 166 learners 165 have been dewormed, one learner
haven’t been allowed to undergo deworming. For the Grade 9, the total
learners are 141 and 140 have been dewormed. For the Grade 10, 134
learners have been dewormed among the 137 enrollees. In the Senior High
School level, all of the 113 learners have been dewormed.

The percentage of learners dewormed for the National Deworming Month

are higher compare to the previous years.

NARRATIVE REPORT IN DEWORMING

July 12, 2016

The benefits of deworming in terms of nutrition of the child there's better absorption
of nutrients, overall health and well-being of the child is greatly improved, the
resistance to infection and illnesses is improved, as well as in terms of mental
capacities.

Children are most vulnerable to worm infections, as their immune system is not yet
fully developed. Untreated worm infections prevent children’s healthy growth, cause
poor nutrition and reduce their capacity to concentrate and learn. The treatment is
simple, safe, effective and free of charge. A single dose of deworming treatment
drastically reduces the number of worms in each child. Regular treatment contributes
to good health and nutrition for children of school age, which in turn leads to
increased enrolment and attendance, reduced class repetition and better educational
attainment. Children need these deworming medicines to grow healthier and learn
better in school. As a teacher, you can play an important role in ensuring that every
child in your class takes the appropriate dosage of medicine.

Among the 701 total learners in San Pedro National High School, 665 learners have
been dewormed. In Grade 7, 120 learners are dewormed (44 – 4P’s and 76 – Non
4P’s). Among the Grade 8, 153 learners are dewormed (59 – 4P’s and 94 – Non
4P’s). While in Grade 9, among the 139 enrollees, 93 learners are only dewormed,
(37 – 4P’s and 56 Non 4P’s). And in Grade 10, 129 learners are dewormed (36 –
4P’s and 93- Non 4P’s). In the Senior High School, out of 107 enrollees, only 74
learners have been dewormed.
