Proposal
The concept of my music video production is to raise awareness for drugs
and substance abuse in a music video. I am going to do this in a stylistic
way, using a dark shadowy character to represent the all the negative
attributes (paranoia, pain and addiction). This character will be the
reason that the protagonist keeps coming back to drugs as he scared to
try and leave. There are going to be a number of scenes where we see
from the protagonists perspective, he will be seeing all kinds of crazy and
abnormal things however it will cut back to show him on his own with
everything normal, this is to show how delusional the drugs are making
him. The song “Insomnia” helps with this as not only do the lyrics have
correlation with the narrative it is also a 90s pop/dance song so it fits with
the 25 to 40 target audience.
I am producing this production for the rain dance film festival. This is also
the last production I am going to make before my final major project
which is where my final grade for the past two year will be decided. This
means I have one more chance to hone my skills in film making my final
project. It also means I am going to have to keep on top of my work so I
don’t get behind as the deadline is only the 25th November 2019.
The target audience I have chosen is 25 to 40. I chose this over the target
audience of 5 to twelve because I believe I can produce a better
production aimed at 25 to 40 year olds. To understand this target
audience we did research into this age range. To start we used secondary
research in specific demographics, these where; age, income, occupation,
education, ethnicity and sexuality. What I discovered was that many 25 to
34 year olds liked pop music, rock music, hip-hop and alternative rock.
For ages 35 to 44, I found out that they prefer pop music, rock music and
classic rock. This was helpful in deciding on what song to choose as I
looked at the most common answer between the two. This was pop
music, so I decided on the song “Insomnia”. After this, (using a number of
charts and surveys) I found that a common 25 to 40 year old enjoys going
on walks, watching informative TV programs like documentary’s, reading

books, listing to 90s/00s rock and pop, using Facebook and drinking
alcohol like wine and beer. This is all helping in producing my production
as I know specifically what to include. This is also why I have decided to
use my music video to raise awareness for drug addiction and substance
abuse as it is as close to a documentary as I can get.
My production will be aired on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook as after
extensive target audience research I discovered that the most used social
media for people aged 25 to 40 was Facebook and then Instagram. I
decided to also air my production on YouTube as I believe my production
will get more coverage on there as you can share the link and a lot of
people aged 20 to 35 use YouTube every day.

Power Information: Solutions:

Mains electric to power/charge anything. No solution needed

Hazards: Solutions:
Loose wires which are easy to trip over. Use tape to keep them down and out of the

This location fits my location research as it has

the potential to look like my mood board
below. I will do this by making the flat look
messy with just a mattress on the floor and an
array of things on the floor. I am also going to
show that this follows a psychological drama
theme and genre by using a number of LED
lights in colours like blue, purple and red to
show that a lot of what is happening in the
music video is happening in the characters
head.

These props fit the prop research I have been carrying out as I have
learnt that the typical 25 to 40 year old drinks alcohol (usually beer
or wine) and a wide variety of them smoke. This is to show that the
character that Liam is portraying can be resonated with and
understandable.

Contingency Plan
This contingency plan has been put in place so if anything
goes wrong with my planning (actor’s cancellations or
location cancellations) I have a backup plan. My back up
location is my home as I can always film there however I have
booked when I am going to film so I don’t see that falling
through. If my main actor cancels I will use Lewis Duncan
instead as he is free on those days.
